I got a new (to me) vehicle recently and have been spending the last few days deep detail cleaning it too to bottom. When I got the back of the car yesterday, I started pulling out panels and got down to the spare tire in the trunk.
I wanted to clean under it so I pulled it out and am I glad I did! Turns out it was FLAT. I never thought about this as something to check, but take a few mins to go out and pull the spare tire out and give it a good one over. Check the air pressure and top off if needed. Mine was at >10psi and should have been 60! Topped it off back to proper psi and saw the date of manufacture, and it was really old and will need replacing asap.
A flat spare is a critical failure of its single job and could def happen to any of us. An old cracking spare is a danger to use as it could pop.
A few minutes today might save us some real stress later down the road.
