I hope he gets exactly what he deserves.

My ex always refused to wear a seat belt in Ubers because it "helps prevent being abducted by sex traffickers". He was a 6"3" 450lb black man. I don't think the seat belt would have made much of a difference.

Apparently it was some nonsense he heard on TikTok. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the same.

Alright, please tell me how not wearing a seat belt helps in a carjacking in any way?

[–] LovingHippieCat@lemmy.world 19 points 9 hours ago

It's actually incredibly helpful! For the carjackers. They can just pull you out instead of having to threaten you to unbuckle and then pull you out. It skips a whole step!

I don't wear a seatbelt when I'm in DC and I've never been carjacked once...I just walk, take the metro and ride an occasional bus to get around.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

So is not wearing a seat belt a euphemism for not driving? What a weird way to say that statement.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 6 points 10 hours ago

Not in the senator’s case. He was talking about how he drives himself, and doesn’t wear a seatbelt in his jeep in case he gets carjacked because he “doesn’t want to be slowed down.”

Because we’re all familiar with the scourge of carjackings that became murders when people took the 5 seconds to undo their seatbelts.

The implication is that I don't have to worry about any of it because I just don't drive in DC. Public transportation in DC is perfectly fine when there's at least one functioning escalator.

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Oh damn, sorry. I thought you were quoting him rather than expanding with your own experience.

Still not sure why the Senator in the post doesn't wear a seat belt.

[–] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago

I can't think of a scenario. It gives you time to put the car in reverse and knock them down with the open door.

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Sounds like a self-correcting problem to me.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Hopefully self-correcting.

Same person…

Two pictures stacked in vertical alignment, the bottom is a tweet by Markwayne Mullin that says “I will lead the breach. I will lay down cover fire. I will take the high ground. I will expose myself to enemy fire to communicate. We must bring back integrity, focus, and put the Warfighter first inside DOD. I stand with @SecDef @PeteHegseth. 🇺🇸”. Above that is a picture of the same guy cowering behind chairs in the house chamber on January 6, 2021.

Charles Darwin please take the wheel.

These fucknuts work themselves into a panic over their own propaganda.

That said, I would have much preferred that the author of the article didn't just mindlessly regurgitate his made up statistics and instead followed up with actual statistics.

Trump decides there should be a new reality that benefits him in some way. Then the marching orders get sent down through the party. Do whatever it takes to create this new reality.

Thanks. Fixed.

[–] oh_@lemmy.world 43 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

DC police need to pull him over and give him a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt.

[–] KnitWit@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago

Probably driving around with no doors on the jeep, wearing flips flops and no seatbelt, talking about ‘I’m afraid of carjackers.’ Just stop with this nonsense MarkWayne.

[–] gointhefridge@lemmy.zip 16 points 12 hours ago

That’s stupid and against the law.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Used to work with this fool who refused to wear a seat belt, but kept a gun in the glove-box "for protection".

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

You can just shoot the car crash and then it can't hurt you

[–] QuoVadisHomines@sh.itjust.works 16 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Aren't you more likely to get into a rear end collision than get carjacked?

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 15 points 12 hours ago

infinitely. also, not having your seatbelt buckled makes you easier to carjack

[–] OttoVonNoob@lemmy.ca 7 points 13 hours ago

Is it difficult to take off a seat belt? It's nothing I've ever had trouble with. Hell, the fact you're probably in a sealed bullet-proof car, then jumping out is much more risky. Let alone the statistically higher even of getting in an accident.
