U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agrees with him that letting voters send in ballots by mail puts honest elections at risk.

"Vladimir Putin, smart guy, said you can't have an honest election with mail-in voting," Trump told Fox News Channel's "Hannity" after a nearly three-hour meeting between the leaders in Alaska. "He said there's not a country in the world that uses it now."

"See this dictator agrees with me.."

We don't give a fuck what Putin says! He doesn't live here! He's not our president, fuck off!

I really wish that orange turd would just kick the bucket already.

Release the Epstein files.

"He said there's not a country in the world that uses it now."

Sweden does, and probably other EU contries aswell.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 75 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Canada does, and all we have to do is request a ballot be mailed to us (in or out of country).

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 22 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Some US states do this as well. Here in Colorado they mail you your ballot a few weeks before election day as the default. You are able to mail it back, but most people drop them off at secure boxes around town on their own time. You can still vote in person but its way more of a pain in the ass to do, idk why anyone would. Mailed ballots are far better

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I can't ever imagine going back to filling out a ballot at the polling location. It's so much easier to do at home, when you can take time to actually research all eleventy-billion candidates for federal and state and county and city, then props and measures and....

In Switzerland about 90% of people submit their votes by mail.

[–] ideonek@piefed.social 27 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Poland have it. After you regiester, the national mailmen will come to your house on electiin day, but you vote in the sealed envelope and hand-deliver it to the balot box... Becouse, you know, disabled people exist. They have the right to vote. Any system that doesnt create the real opportunity to vote for people that have the right to vote is not democratic.

We all are going to be disabled at some point.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 23 points 1 day ago

I don't think it's fair to criticize Putin for this, it's consistent with his stance on other forms of voting.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

Like Putin is an expert in free and fair elections.

Just to provide some non-sarcastic comments mail-in voting is a source of liberty and democracy for the citizens of the United States. It is a stalwart safeguard against being bullied and harassed at the polls.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 23 points 1 day ago

It also protects against intentionally underfunding polling locations in minority areas to suppress votes. No one should ever need to learn the phrase "if you're in line when the polls close, stay in line", because voting backups shouldn't exist in the first place.

[–] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 29 points 1 day ago

Don’t you feel better when you’re protected by ICE at the polls and they make sure you’re not accidentally voting while looking un-American?

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

Holy fuck, who cares? Trump is in the Epstein files

[–] Nico_198X@europe.pub 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that's evidence you're wrong, you fucking muppet

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

Remember when Taco had the audacity to call Hillary the puppet?

Projection. It's always projection with the cons.

[–] sad_detective_man@leminal.space 38 points 1 day ago (3 children)

why in the fuck are we asking him anything?

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah who the FUCK needs his advice on elections other than "how to rig them"

Goddammit Alaska you've got so many guns...

Who knew they were discussing how to subvert democracy instead of what they were suposed to discuss. Putin is definitively Trumps handler.

[–] KingOfSleep@lemmy.ca 59 points 1 day ago

The president of the fucking United States taking democracy lessons from Russia...

I hate this cuntery.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 33 points 1 day ago

Of course the fascists want everyone susceptible to voter intimidation. Yawn.

[–] MummifiedClient5000@feddit.dk 34 points 1 day ago

Just taking some notes on democracy from an actual fascist dictator. No biggie.

[–] sugarfoot00@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago

Headline: Trump says Putin agrees with him US should not have ~~mail-in~~ voting

FTFY Subby.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

“You shouldn’t have mail in voting, because we can’t hack mail. So ….get rid of it”

[–] TuffNutzes@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago

My mommy let me visit my friend Vlad and were were talkin', ya know. And he said, you know what? I agree with you that mail-in voting is bad. And I said, yeah, right? See I know my friends agree with me. I'm going to go back and tell mommy what my friend Vlad said and say "See, mommy, even Vlad agrees!"

Fucking toddler child loser leader of MAGA losers. WTF is wrong with these people?

[–] Decq@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (13 children)

Why aren't there anymore protest in the US? Were the Kings Day protests really the only thing we are going to get? Those obviously never were going to do jack ahit. Is the general population actually ok with what's happening? It's hard to get a good reading on the general vibe over there from far away. I just can't phantom why DC is not being overrun with protesters right now.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 19 points 1 day ago

I think there are protests but coverage and communication is limited. Probably because a lot of news and platforms are owned by shitty, rich, people.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (3 children)

There are protests every week, even in my tiny ass rural Appalachian city.

People are actively resisting ICE and the National Guard however they can

And they've already pulled back on federalizing DC because nobody wants to pay soldiers to clear homeless camps

Everyone other than MAGA is furious and terrified in some measure and most of us are doing what we can. This aint France where you can effectively gather people quickly, this country is huge and most of us live in the sticks. We gotta do what we can where we are. Shit, its like a 5 hour drive for me to get to my state capitol, I can't do that all the time.
