Windows 11 has given me no issues whatsoever. I'm not apologizing for having a great experience.

Different strokes for different folks - windows 11 does have it's uses.

Ever since our office laptops "upgraded" they've made excellent space heaters during the winter. Open up Teams, a PowerPoint, and a YouTube video and you've got a nice toasty office!

[–] Brotha_Jaufrey@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago

I believe everyone has the right to choose whatever works for them. Linux does require you to work through issues at times. I do think people should be aware of Microsoft aiding in the genocide of Palestinians, however.

I've literally never been asked to use Linux, what are you on about

[–] WanderFree@sh.itjust.works 1 points 15 hours ago

Honestly, I just wait until they ask me how to do something with copilot. I can talk to them for 10 minutes about all the different AI I can use, even openai before explaining that I don't have to reconfigure office, SharePoint, or M365 to use something else, then I use the L word, and that is why Windows 11 or 12 upgrades disrupt nothing for me. No I didn't have to buy new devices, no my phone works fine with what I have, yes, I can edit that type of file. No, I am not a hacker. Macs are fine, I just haven't needed Apple to get a small fast laptop.

[–] bier@feddit.nl 5 points 14 hours ago

I'm probably the minority here, but I don't really want mainstream folk as Linux user. You people already ruined the internet!

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, you should switch to Windows but ethical instead, so ReactOS

[–] Hudell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Don't think it'll stop if you do switch to Linux.

[–] Aganim@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

After that they'll just try to get you to switch distributions, because the grass is always greener at Arch.

[–] XM34@feddit.org 3 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, and even if you're using Arch BTW, you're not using it correctly! Why would you install a fully featured DE? Don't you know how many dependencies that introduces to your custom built super slick OS? Come on, just use I3! Writing basic functionallity like a shutdown menu yourself isn't that bad!

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Nah, The more you learn about mormonism the more you realize how stupid it is.

It's more like vegans, the more you learn about it the more you realize they're right but you don't switch out of convenience and familiarity. The preachiness and eir of superiority is annoying though.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

As a vegan on Win 8 i agree

[–] LaLuzDelSol@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

Jesus christ that's a cursed combination

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Psh. In my experience, Linux users don’t beg people to change their OS. They just make fun of you and act like they’re somehow superior to you for the OS you use.

[–] KingPorkChop@lemmy.ca 4 points 11 hours ago

..and brag about how it took them 2 weeks to get their printer and scanner working.

[–] fin@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Don't feed the trolls

[–] fishos@lemmy.world -3 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

"If you don't like Linux you're just a troll" is the EXACT energy OP is talking about. Y'all are insufferable. Linus Torvalds is incredibly well known for being a dick because "what I think is right is most important" and that toxic attitude is what keeps most people from giving Linux a second look.

But totally, people hating on Linux are just trolls. Let me guess, you use Arch? You're always the most obnoxious.

[–] gens@programming.dev 4 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

You know Linus acts like an ass, but Balmer is an ass, and Jobs was a horrible person?

And google is amoral in general.

I'd rather side with the rude for a reason crowd, then the polite to take advantage of you crowd.

That said I use linux for a long time now, and only recently would I recommend it to others. And even that not always.

[–] fin@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 hours ago

You absolutely are trolls and I use Debian btw

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago

You don't have to use Linux, you can use BSD too

[–] flemtone@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Use whatever Os works for you, no-one should be forced to change what they use.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 5 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

That's the thing, many people don't know there is anything else and don't realize "their" machines have slowly slid out of order to the point of not "working" anymore.
When I don't tell someone I know that using a computer does not have to be painful, it feels like an act of cruelty. That only applies to people I know IRL, I feel like most of Lemmy at least knows about Linux. In any case, if anything I'd say the tendency to mention Linux comes from a genuine intention of helping

[–] BearGun@ttrpg.network 3 points 10 hours ago

Sure, if you're in a space where people aren't technologically proficient that's fair. But this behavior is most prevalent here on lemmy, and i seriously doubt anyone who has managed to find their way to this platform doesn't know that linux exists. It just becomes real insufferable real fast.

[–] mycelium_underground@lemmy.world 55 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Have you heard the good word? Linus is our Lord and Savior. I use arch BTW.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

He does act like he is from time to time. And he's even been doing to pull off the occasional miracle.

[–] ChuckTheMonkey@fedia.io 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Gaben is the fourth Messiah given us by God himself. I use Steam OS which is based on Arch btw.

[–] salacious_coaster 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These people begging to fix your computer for you... Are they in the room with us right now?

[–] Klear@quokk.au 1 points 3 hours ago

Are you blind? Yes, they are all over the place.

I only recently decided to switch. The biggest reason for me was setting up Windows 11 on other people's laptops and seeing just how hard Microsoft pushes you to make an account, as well as the occasional ads I've seen. So with Windows 10's end of life, I decided I don't want to put up with that BS anymore. I still have Win10 as a back up if I need it for anything.

It’s superior in every way except for the programs you actually use don’t work on it!

[–] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com -5 points 18 hours ago

Under literally every post with the w word the linux cult is trying to concert users. Its helping curating the feed by blocking them though

[–] dfyx@lemmy.helios42.de 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Use whatever makes you happy and matches your needs. Ignore the haters.

I use arch btw. And Ubuntu. And Windows. And an iPhone. Does it matter?

[–] MrSmith@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

It kind of does? Monopolies wouldn't have us by the balls if people didn't buy their shit.

Then you obviously know nothing about Mormons.

The church covers up sexual abuse on a routine basis.

Mormonism is inherently homophobic, transphobic, racist, misogynistic, and emotionally abusive.

I get that you're probably just focusing on the aspect of their proselytizing but their end goal is nefarious and oppressive.

I never tell people to switch to anything from their current OS. I only recommend them to use things when they express discomfort or say they're fed up with their current OS. That's the time to strike. If you tell people to switch from something they're fine with... Nah. Going nowhere with that.

No way, if you feel that strongly you should definitely stay on windows.

If anybody else would like to switch we'll help them but you certainly don't have to. Honestly when people are that much against switching switching really goes well.

I thought this was the shitpost community

I don't use arch btw

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (8 children)

Arch promoters are the worst. I believe anyone suggesting Arch to convert people are Windows/Mac marketing. If you already use Linux, then Arch could be useful for you. But anyone even remotely new or experienced but more interested in using their computer rather than configuring an OS shouldn't get an Arch recommendation.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I don't ever see people promoting Arch to convert users from Windows. Plenty of Arch-based distros though, like Garuda, CachyOS, Bezzite, or (not really recommended, but an example) SteamOS. There are lots of great distros based on Arch that come bundled with all the packages most users will need. Arch is just for the users that want to remove every last bit of stuff they don't need and handle it all themselves so they have exactly the minimum they want, which only has minor utility and is not good for new users who don't even know what exists.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 15 points 1 day ago

I don't really ever see anyone promote Arch. People have this hard on for hating on Arch users that's based on decade-old preconceptions, and they somehow perpetrate them without substance.
