Brutalism is still alive and well in the global south, at least for personal residences (and for the people who can afford to have their house designed by an architect). In public spaces? Yeah not so much.

Brutalism is ugly, opressive, and aggressively anti proletarian. Some brutalist buildings are cool but the majority make life worse for the people around them.

The style was literally developed for post-WW2 reconstruction efforts. Relatively cheap and fast construction of large public buildings is about as prole-friendly as it gets

Cheap fast and ugly is as good as we get

Yes because post ww2 ussr was definitely able to give everyone a penthouse suite

I'd settle for eradicating homelessness.

how anti-proletarian of you

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago

But enough about your mother

Brutalism is ugly, energy inefficient and expensive over time. You guys just like it because you associate it with the Soviet Union.

Ugliness is a matter of taste. It can actually look pretty nice when paired with plants and utilizing proper lighting.

I think it gets a bad rap. Frankly I find it more interesting than the bland garbage I see being built today. But I got weird tastes.

First two are opinion based but I'm gonna need a source on "anti-proletarian"

The Barbican is literally the most beloved area of the entire city of London by residents what the fuck are you talking about?

You are just straight up wrong. Make life worse? Fuck off.
