The second Newsom stops being a transphobe is when he gets my vote.

This is kinda juvenile, but you can't deny it's also fucking great because you know it gets to him.
The stupid shit gets him.
Conservatives are weird made them flip the fuck out.
It's because they are thin skinned milk sops who will cry incivility at the mereest of insults. I grew up round them and still live amongst them, the number of them who I've gotten to throw a fit by being a blasé ass is frankly amazing, I don't even have to try just speaking shitty Latin is enough to piss them off.
Trump is a diaper baby. It's ok to treat him like one.
Newsom did the math. He is the only high ranking neoliberal Democrat, who activly fights Trump. It is very obvious that fighting Trump is incredibly popular and also that all of the further left candidates are not going to get funding from billionaires. That puts Newsom into a very strong position to become the next US president, if there is a free and fair election.
all of the further left candidates are not going to get funding from billionaires.
That's why I want them to run, and not Newsom. If he wins, backed by billionare money, he's just going to keep perpetuating the same system, the same way that Biden and Obama did.
I fucking hope he does't run for president. He's just a younger Joe Biden. He's not a neoliberal at ALL.
If anything, he's just representing the CA vibe here. Points for that, but no more than this.
Repressing. He's merely doing the minimum California demands of him.
Seriously, he's still fucking hated for blatantly throwing trans people under the bus, handing out with alt-right grifters, and finally acting like the rich scumbag everyone knew he was but no one quite had proof yet.
Who will have a better chance in this climate?
AOC comes to mind. John Stewart, if he ever decided to run.
We need to stop picking people we think will win, and start picking actual leaders that are right for this country.
Otherwise we're just going to get Joe 2.0 pushing the same bullshit agenda that's crippled this country in the face of the aggressive fascists that now hold it.
Yeah except Bernie banked on that in 2020 and lost.
Perhaps if progressive policy and people are so popular it would behoove people to actually show the fuck up and vote for them.
Tardigrades
I think you're missing the news about JB Pritzker.
I have been screaming for years that Democrats should stand and fight back on the meme/social-media front!
The second a Democratic governor show some spine:
"Newsom isn't pure enough."
And this is exactly why we so fucking always lose. Fuck all y'all.
He's a transphobic piece of shit, that's toxic as fuck for me
Democrats should stand and fight back on the meme/social-media front!
I mean, they have tried... but seem physically incapable of understanding how.
The last several candidates they've presented us have been utterly contemptable in their lack of personality, passion or character. Their "meme" front has been the most inoffensive, inhuman forms of propaganda imaginable, not even remotely witty or funny.
This is a large reason Dems lose so much. They are trying too hard to appeal to milquetoast liberals and use the most inclusive, bland language possible and it rubs people as corporate slop and disingenuous "please, I will do or say anything for a vote" pandering and people see through it.
One reason Trump is so popular among a certain class of people is that he's so bad at lying that many people think he's not trying to hide it at all, and perversely enough, this makes him more human and relatable than people like Harris who have zero distinguishing characteristics. People are angry, frustrated and they want narratives. They care a lot more about a storyline than they do about if candidate X has been consistent on policy Y. It's dumb and sad but we're here because Dems think they're too good to play this game.
Newsom is BARELY crossing this threshold and could go a lot further, and would need to if he has eyes on the Iron Throne, but it's a start.
Spot on! I'll have to reread this a time or three.
Yeah, memes and social media are why Kamala won... Oh wait...
One of the many reasons that we lose is because we let the politicians who cosplay as "the left" take the votes from actual leftists. I'm glad the Democrats are fighting back on social media, but how about fighting back legislatively and politically when they have the chance?
One of the reasons that we lose, is because they seem unwilling to do that, and the voters have noticed.
Or... People just don't turn out to vote "real" leftists in. Election turnout submitted as exhibit A.
I'm not American, so perhaps there's something I'm missing, but when has there been a real leftist on the ballot? My impression was that the perceived lack of meaningful choice is plausibly driving poor election turn out
Well they can't get on the ballot if 1) no one runs for it and 2) no one votes in the primary for them.
And I obviously mean more than just a presidential election. There could be a slew of leftist candidates IMO if 1) progressives turned out or 2) were as numerous as they claim.
I'd love for that to be the case but their track record is bad. Exhibit B should be Mamdani. Primary was still sparsely attended BUT I can't remember if it was 25% or thereabouts (maybe more) who had not voted in a primary in the previous decade. People showed up and whaddya know, a leftist won the primary (and hopefully is on track to win the general- seemingly so by the latest polls.)
But regardless- very few consistently turn up to primaries. It's a long grind and people need to be aware. Vote as far left as you can (if you want that) in the primary and then for the best candidate in the general. Rinse, repeat. It isn't a schooner. It is an aircraft carrier and takes time to turn things around.
The answers might be obvious to everyone now (universal healthcare, etc.) but you can't go thinking you vote in one election and it's magically fixed and everyone's eyes are opened. Put in the work. But people don't and therefore we are where we are.
You mean the last election when there were two right-wing candidates on the ballot? Yes, you are correct, that leftists don't come out to vote for right-wingers. Of course, when there is a leftist on the ballot, leftists do show up, as evidenced above.
I wonder if that's a chicken or egg deal because I see actual leftists who are too busy arguing amongst themselves to field a candidate or vote in a primary, not to mention actually voting when it matters. Why would Democrats bother to wrangle something together from that? They're not afraid of the left at all and for good reason.
I don't understand where this "Leftists don't vote" meme comes from. Leftists demonstrably vote, when they have leftist candidates to vote for. Mamdani, Sanders, AOC, Sawant, etc all get plenty of votes.
But Democrats keep running center-right candidates that pretend to be lefitsts. I find it telling that, as Democrats keep moving to the right, their approval rate keeps dropping, and they keep getting fewer votes.
Gavin Newsom's an establishment politician first and anything else second.
He's vetoed trans protections, sold out unions and appeared on a far right podcast to showcase his anti trans views.
For now he's an opponent of fascism, but his interests are not the interests of the American people. He'll gladly sell us out if it benefits his career.
Big tent comrade. Some of us fart in our sleep, but we either climb in this thing together or else we both sleep in our own separate cardboard boxes.
"We must assuredly all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."
These leftist kids today aren't getting it, but this is the only message that matters. If anyone is upset by this, feel free to craft a coherent argument.
Yes, climb into the box with all the people willing to sell minority rights away to appeal to fascists. Like, "Hey you guys hate queer people right? Well, we actually will tolerate that over here! If you guys want to implement politics intended to drive trans kids to kill themselves, hey thats totally fine we would be willing to do that if you vote for us!"
This is the box youre asking trans people to climb into?
One side isn't supporting me and voted for some things that are harmful for me. The other side wants to put me in an extermination camp.
I can't decide these are the same
Gavin literally had Charlie Kirk on his podcast, to tell Charlie that he agrees with him about trans rights. Charlie Kirk. Gavin Newsome should not run for president. There are better democrats who haven't bonded with a genocidal white supremacist over hatred of queer people.
I absolutely agree with you there. I have a long list of people I prefer. Newsome is in my mind is the choice one step above a republican, and that's just barely.
I hope we get someone decent through the primary. I detest our system, but until it changes the most moral thing I can do is pick harm reduction. I don't want to see anyone stripped of their rights. However, I also don't want to see anyone shipped off to death camps.
I can fight to restore rights to people, I can't fight to resurrect the dead.
Honestly after typing all this out revolution seems like the preferable thing at this point, but until then all I can do is pick harm reduction at the ballot box and fight for more.
I didn't see anyone in this thread say they are the same. I always find it quite telling how liberals have to make up points to argue against, instead of sticking to the points being made.
I would absolutely not define myself as a liberal. My ideal canidate has never been on the ballot. At this point I content myself with trying to prevent those that want death camps from getting power. When it comes to the available means at the ballot box choices are limited. That's by design of course, but it's foolish to not even try.
I'd say contextually my previous comment fits the discussion
He also has waged a huge war on homeless people while his people become homeless from fires, mudslides, etc. Homelessness is genocide. He is for genocide. He is not a good person and is below the standard for basic human decency. We deserve non-genocidal people.
Thank you! Someone else who gets that he is still dogshit. He’s not liquid dogshit like republicans but he is still dogshit
We already have a name and flag ready to go if we become our own country.
I love that we kept the flag from when we were briefly an independent breakaway state. And while the two heads on this flag are a joke about mutated animals in Fallout, in-universe they also symbolize tending to our own with the lowered head and being ready to defend with the raised one.
This flag is so over Amazon. I tried (and succeeded) in getting the CA flag, but these were cheaper and more numerous.
So, yeah. Let's go!
Bring Colorado with you if you can
Alaska can come too.
THE END!
FIRE Z MISSILES!!
I guess I'm glad somebody on the left is finally reciprocating the populist style memeing necessary to contend with trump and current far right politics. "Fighting fire with fire" would feel a lot better though if our flamethrower supported trans rights, among other things.
Trump won twice not just by being a memelord but by leaning fully into the populism necessary for his base. You can't achieve a 'left' version of that by just meeting him at the meme level. The contending policies have to be so popular that they're obvious.
He's definitely a milquetoast douche when it comes to trans rights, BUT he also isn't actively trying to legislate them out of existence and CA has some of the strongest trans legal protections in the country. It's a low bar to clear, sadly.
