Texas Democrats are claiming victory over their Republican counterparts in their redistricting clash and could return to the state, according to a new report.

Concretely, ABC News detailed that lawmakers are planning on returning to the state if Republicans effectively adjourn the special session called to that end on Friday.

In a release published on Tuesday, Democrats said they "have killed this corrupt special session on behalf of Texas families, exactly what we said we'd do when we left the state."

However, a spokesperson later told the outlet that plans could change if the GOP changes its strategy over the next days.

"Gov. Greg Abbott said the session will adjourn on Friday if Democrats don't return by then"

Sounds like a trap. Adjourn, get everyone back, then "EMERGENCY SPECIAL SESSION!!"

Exactly what will happen, and with those warrants in affect, the Democrats won't be able to escape out of state this time. So for them to claim victory now is stupid. But its par for the course for Democrats. They only pretend to stand up and fight. Democrats are letting fascism run wild with no end in sight.

Do not split. They took action to raise awareness and delay this vote, risking arrest. You are posting online. It's not the Democrats' fault that Republicans have become the party of authoritarianism.

Coool cool cool.

What is your solution? What should Texas democrats be doing to directly stop this?

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Never come back. Completely shut down the state government and force them to fast track their desired one party state (and trigger some uprising) or just get nothing done at all. Either way people will get mad and start demanding real action.

Never come back.

That would be vacating their seats, in which case Abbott will just appoint crony replacements and the districts will pass.

Ah yes, anarchy. Usually lasts for 1-3 turns. No city growth, no production. YMMV once you convert to a new political ideology.

Let Abbott and others reconvene to get all the corrupt people in one room. Then do the thing.

And they leave again... cest la vie. Hot wheels isn't some sort of mystical mastermind. Hell cobra comander had better plans with his weather dominator. Hot wheels is just a fascist who hates everyone who isn't him. And fuck him. He should roll out onto 35 and chill.

Unless it's a lure to get them back so they can be arrested and held pending the special session... Remember, established rules don't matter anymore.

[–] blackbearjesus27@lemmy.world 19 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Would they not still be immediately arrested upon entering the state, leading to the same exact problem we’re facing right now?

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Can't be arrested, nothing they did was illegal. The "sending fbi" bullshit could only bring them to the floor so they'd be forced to be in appearance for the vote.

[–] blackbearjesus27@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Unless they’ve been rescinded, there are state warrants still open. No civil or criminal charges but there would be nothing stopping Abbott from just immediately declaring a session and arresting them when they cross state lines.

[–] piefood@feddit.online 15 points 12 hours ago

Since when does getting arrested require you to do anything illegal? Especially recently?

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 13 points 15 hours ago

I don't buy it for a second.

special session sounds like a cool band name
