USING THE MILITARY AS A POLICE FORCE IS ILLEGAL. ANY SOLDIER COOPERATING WITH THIS IS OBEYING AN ILLEGAL ORDER.

[–] chosensilence@pawb.social 3 points 1 day ago

yeah they don’t care

[–] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In this case he is using the national gaurd, which through various laws, is not illegal.

The national gaurd is the only armed forces generally allowed to be deployed to U.S. soil, (although laws in the last 25 years have also changed that) and can be used for police actions when the situation is dire enough. (It is not the spirit of the law for depolyment of national gaurd to bully political opposition but its not specifically safeguarded bcs obviously congress would never let democracy be shot in front them, right?)

then throw in a flurry of laws from 9/11 till now, he technically has the authority to federalize national gaurd...

While he must lie about thier offical misson, he can technically do all this legally. Congress needs to step up and shut this down, but ofc GOP is all for the elimination of dissent.

Everything in our country right now is aslow cooker popping off, most of this stuff has been building for 40-60+ years.

How do you keep spelling guard incorrectly? Good grief.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That explains the mentality.

[–] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Many reason, when I was typing I didn't realize I was spelling it incorrectly, I am sleep deprived, dizzy from the heat and I never was taught english proper. Learned to spell using ms word and learned grammer from a self bought copy of how to for dummies (yay american education[bonus fun fact about american education, did you know you dont need to learn algebra to graduate hs or get an associates degree? My bachelor program is gonna kill me).

I hated math. Luckily I didn't need algebra.

An SS you say?

Are the USA's militarized police not annoyed that their violent dominance of the streets is being usurped by actual soldiers with guns? Maybe they could fight it out among themselves?

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Will the Bootlicker Brigade get annoyed that the boots they love to lick most are attacking their "enemies?"

I don't think so, fam. I think we better start preparing for the inevitable.

And if you think this cancer doesn't involve you, ask yourself what happens to the weaker non-fascist neighbors of fascist nations.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

We're fully aware in Canada that the fascism next door affects us. Trump came in on day one threatening to annex our country, and he hasn't stopped with the threats and hostility.

[–] DeathToUS@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There might be eventually come the day the orcs in the us or i like the call (New Confederate States of America) like they have the saying the south will rise again! About if not 300 M citizens at least 200 M plan to invade the rest of the world every single country must unite and drive the invading American rebels back to their land it will be relative easy since their soldiers will be overweight and lazy being lead by alcoholic Hegseth who already is talking about the confederate flag waiving over EU capital brussels or Bejing China)

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

As long as cops get paid to beat their wives and sexually assault their victims, they don't care. Let the military deal with the person slaughtering children. They can just make tiktok videos and beat on the parents who try to be "The Good Guy With a Gun"

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"There's a reason you separate the military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people."

So say we all!

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Great, so they're prepping for a civil war. At least they're aware thats whats going to happen...fucking idiots.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

American's opportunity to fight this is disappearing rapidly. They need to take this very seriously.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Apparently you dont know how a civil war works...People dont ask permission for a civil war from the current government..

[–] chonkyninja@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Shiiiiit. Do the math, our military is pretty fucking small, but effective, in foreign lands.

340million citizens, 500million+ firearms, meanwhile our armed forces has approximately 2million headcount but most of them are not soldiers. So basically 250:1 ratio.

In time both political groups will become more unified against this bullshit as it begins to affect them directly. I’m talking citizens, not politicians.

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

That was largely dead... closer to decades ago than not.

Gun nuts? You are all unique little snowflakes and if just one of you were in Gaza all of Israel would have been stopped. Now fuck off.

Everyone with a brain cell? We've been conditioned as a people to hate protesters if they... actually protest. Block a street or even be distracting on the sidewalk? Fucking losers are going to alienate the good people like me all while accomplishing nothing and maybe we SHOULD kill some trans folk just to show them how rude they are being! And if the fascists pop a few protesters in the process? Both sides are letting this escalate way too far and... wait, mother fuckers were gonna hurt the Costco? Okay, maybe that fat white kid had a point.

And any actual organized armed resistance? They'll get taken out by snipers/marksmen or just run over by tanks/APCs. Or they'll shoot a few cops, run off, and learn real quick just how many cameras we have in this country (and people should realize that is increasingly true globally...) and wake up to a drone strike on their hideout.

And if they DO magically manage to destroy every single camera in the tristate area without ever getting caught because they have the power of jesus and Jack Bauer on their side? They'll learn REAL fast that their neighbors aren't going to defiantly face a firing line while talking into the camera about how the wildcats are going to save this great land. They'll call the cops, give up the location of the heroic wildcats, and then have to yell over the sound of bombs dropping while they ask if there is a reward.

The reality is that nothing can stop a modern military other than another modern military. This has ALWAYS been true but it is even moreso now that said modern military have ridiculous technological advantages. And... just look at russia. Pull your pants up hexbears... Nobody is going to really try to stop them because they are one of THE nuclear powers. You know who the other one is? The one obsessed with eagles and the punisher.

Speaking of which, abrahamic god help you if you don't Support The Troops(TM). Posse commitatus you fucking civvy, they have no choice but to follow the orders up until they will instead decide to protect all of us!!! Until then, they are going to sacrifice their everything by fucking up the paperwork right before they push the latest batch of people into a gas chamber.

But, I hear you say, guerilla warfare is a thing and always wins! Okay, one: Gaza. Two: Much of the global south once the imperialist powers lost interest. Guerilla warfare works when the occupying force cares about public opinion. And guerilla warfare's end state is to make it too costly for said occupying force to... occupy it.

So... if you burn enough mypillow trucks then trump and all the republicans are going to abandon the US? Is that the endgame?

Nah... I increasingly don't think the american people have any way of fighting back. And the people watching horrified around the world are going to learn just how fast their governments take inspiration from this. The best we can hope for is a civil war and... the people who take power during those tend to not be the people you want as leaders.

[–] chonkyninja@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

You’re weak minded. Our military has nothing to protect against the citizens. This isn’t Iraq. We’ll sabotage the living fuck out of everything they need to operate. Where do you think they’re going to get their food? Their fuel? Etc…

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's a lot of words to say "it's hard so don't bother"

Home of the brave!

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why don't you come down here and fight with us? Take the lead, show us how it's done.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just another deflection to avoid responsibility for doing something yourself.

This is your mess. I'm not cleaning it up for you.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You think they won't be coming for Canada once they're done with the US takeover? As was mentioned here already, Trump has been openly threatening Canada. Why not come help sort out the situation now, rather than waiting until the military is at your door?

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You'd be doing well if you put as much energy into resisting them as you do into trying to make it someone else's problem.

Americans have to solve this themselves. No one else can do it.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I made three comments on the internet. If you think that much energy is going to make a difference anywhere, I've got some unfortunate news for you.

Regardless, the point I'm trying to make is, it's really easy to sit here and post about how Americans need to step up and solve the problem, just like it's easy for us to say "We need to take action!" - what's hard is knowing how to effectively take that action, or how to organize a country behind a common course. I sure don't know how to do those things, and I suspect almost everyone else is in the same situation. We need a leader to step up and show us how.

Point is, if you aren't going to be that person, you have nothing to offer, and your derogatory internet tough guy posting isn't in any way productive. Why don't you put that effort into fighting your own far-right political groups, instead?

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Stop trying to deflect from the conversation at hand. You've made 3 comments and not a single one has addressed it.

I'm finished.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Oh so like China or north Korea or any of those other free countries.

Neat.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They still need to form dedicated special operations kill teams for tracking down the higher priority/more violent dissidents.

20 years of counterinsurgency tactics is going to come back home.

Release the Trump/Epstein files

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Look, I suspect a non-insignificant number of troops will look on this whole operation with disdain.

Roughly 30% of the US military is non-white with roughly 17% being black.

So I think there's going to be a chunk who may just try not to do their new jobs very well. Especially when its clear that Trump is targeting cities with major black populations.
