I wonder what it's like to make good shows, but have your target audience be the cringiest fanbases imaginable.

I was a homestuck. Didn't make the show obviously, but I was embarrassed for my community. I was friends with some local community leaders for events there.

Community leaders mostly just ignored the bad apples, even if there were many. I imagine they do the same. There's a ton of non-cringey community members to interact with in a fandom that large, so while filtering your inbox/not reading comments is essential for that strategy, they could do it, and interact with the awesome people in their community instead.
