Politicians gonna politic

I too cannot possibly think of wanting to be something that no American has become yet. :P

This reply is moronic. Why would anyone assume that no one would write to NASA until they already had an astronaut in space? The Astronaut Selection program started in 1959. Plans to train and send astronauts into space were not secret. I would be shocked if NASA didn't get tons of letters from kids of all ages as soon as the program started. An 11 or 12-year old Clinton writing to them isn't even slightly unlikely.

Also, who fucking cares about Hillary now? Stop trying to distract from the Epstein files.

This is a very old meme. It looks to be from 2019, and is just another repost by a random person (or bot) on the Internet. It has nothing to do with Epstein on any level.

Very old meme followed by 2019 does not work in my head. I was expecting something like 2012, lol.

The distraction machinery definitely uses bots and it seems like an easy strategy to just reuse posts that did well. Not saying that this definitely is part of that. But I'd be careful with sentences like "It has nothing to do with Epstein on any level."

I get the point the person replying to Hillary is trying to make, but it’s really not strange to think that in her current age she views a 15-year-old as a “little girl” the way we view Epstein, Trump, and the like as pedophiles for what they did to young teenagers of similar age.

Speaking of which, they release those Epstein files yet?

Also one can dream about being an astronaut without astronauts already existing

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 week ago

America had a space program before NASA and was recruiting the Mercury 7 in 1957 when she was 9 or 10, aka a little girl. like. Hillary Clinton sucks, but this argument for why she sucks sucks.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago

Not saying she's telling the truth, but this is hardly a "gotcha." The Mercury 7 were selected in 1959, and it was celebrated news at the time. An 11 year old girl could certainly have written to NASA.

This thing is old as dirt. It has much jpeg, the patina of the internet. Never post a tweet with the date cut off. Also I never saw how Hillary replied to that.

Anyhow, when will the current admin show us those Epstein files?

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

jpeg, the patina of the internet

absolute poetry

because you’re welcome.

[–] sploosh@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Didn't women do tons of the math in the early days of NASA?

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 21 points 1 week ago

Yes. They were the original computers. However none of them were eligible to be astronauts at the time. It was male only.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Ok then I'll become president." "Same answer."

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think that one was more "we don't take neoliberals".

[–] absentbird@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Then why did Biden win the next one?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 6 days ago

For one Biden made a lot more concessions to the left and his campaign strategy included working with rather shutting out progressives. For another morgues were literally overflowing with Covid deaths, and enough people wanted something to be done about that to get Biden just over the edge. Hillary and Harris were both running campaigns strictly inferior to Biden's, and not by a small amount, so given that Biden's race was already very close you'd need zero additional information to predict their losses.
