Here is The Dissident's site: https://www.thedissident.news/

I searched it for every variation of "Shitrit", "IDF", and "October 7" I could think of, and turned up nothing. I do not believe the source; I do not believe the Canary. Overall, I'd say this is fake as hell and should be taken down.

This is basic due diligence, and I shouldn't have had to do this. OP, what the hell?

This is maga level conspiracy. We need some source standards on this community.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (4 children)

We knew a few weeks after the attack that over a dozen intelligence agencies told them it would happen, and they chose to lower their defenses instead of prepare.

The Israeli soldier testifying on video?

Why are all "credible" news outlets refusing to report on this?

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 4 points 2 days ago

They've already done an entire report on the failures. A solider saying he got a call to cancel a patrol is not enough evidence for the claim.

What do you think the IDF solider is testifying to by the way?

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Sensationalism, easy peasy finger pointing b/c this, that or whatever. Not picking sides. Just being pickier about journalism & all the sources. It is way more complex than the common dimwit (that common dimwit is me btw) can truly comprehend. The level of when, who & why. Yeah, that’s messed up. But what is truly messed up is our senses are being offended & it is just too much for some to think about. I guess this is why garbage journalism goes right along according to the wretched script.

[–] qaz@lemmy.world 64 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Be aware that the claim that they let this happen on purpose in this article is mainly based on the fact that patrols were cancelled.

According to The Dissident, Shitrit said during his testimony that at 5.20am on 7 October:

We were playing on the phone and suddenly a strange message came up from my deputy commander, .. and what he says on the radio is something like this: ‘I don’t know why, but an order was given that there would be no patrols in the (Gaza) fence until 9am

And sure enough, an hour later, at 6.30am, suddenly sirens.

I don't feel this is as conclusive as they present it to be.

[–] JakenVeina@midwest.social 35 points 2 days ago

If they normally do these patrols EVERY morning, as the testimony claims, ot's EXTREMELY suspicious, and the evidence to counter it needs to be equally-extremely convincing.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It certainly isn't conclusive. But I'd say it warrants further investigation. Something that is unlikely to happen.

And ultimately doesn’t matter, nothing would change even if it came out Hamas doesn’t exist and it’s just a play by the IDF

The evidence has been mounting for years, and even this specific revelation just confirms what was known since 2024. Yes, the current Israeli regime absolutely has a master plan for killing all Palestinians and taking over their territories, and yes, this plan absolutely includes manipulating public opinion globally - in other words, lying about it. It also includes supporting Hamas.

They discuss all this relatively openly in knesset.

Anyhow, here's a lengthy quote from the article. There are links in it which didn't copy over, so please click on the article and further links.

This is not the first article of this kind btw, and many come straight from Israeli more-or-less-mainstream outlets.

this testimony from an on-duty IDF soldier sits next to a wealth of documented evidence Israel knew of the attack well ahead of time. Reporting on this, US independent outlet The Young Turks pointed to a number of these. One was a New York Times article from November 2023 detailing how Israeli officials had:

obtained Hamas’s battle plan for the Oct. 7 terrorist attack more than a year before it happened

It also highlighted an article by Israeli news site Haaretz from June 2024 which buttressed this further. It confirmed that the Israeli intelligence had “detailed knowledge of Hamas’s plan”. The same outlet has underscored IDF command ignoring intel from women soldiers patrolling at the border, warning of an impending attack.

Moreover, Israel deliberately deploying its Hannibal Directive makes the soldier’s testimony all the more believable as well. This Israeli military policy prefers the murder of its own soldiers, over them becoming hostages. Numerous Israeli press reports and revelations from Israeli military officials revealed a “mass Hannibal” order that directed the slaughter of civilians Hamas took captive.

Israel’s then defense minister Yoav Gallant later admitted that the government implemented the Hannibal Directive on 7 October.

In other words, Israel was fully prepared to murder its own citizens.

And they're clever enough to leave their supporters with one final argument, even if they find out about these very real conspiracies: Hamas still actively perpetrated the attack.

[–] 0li0li@lemmy.world 149 points 2 days ago (9 children)

Didn't know we were waiting for confirmation on that. Didn't they post a report back in December that Israel had intel and did nothing?

Fucking monsters.

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 62 points 2 days ago

Exactly, the whole thing was just a convinient excuse to exterminate Palestinians, it was never about defending Israel

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 35 points 2 days ago

Yes. First time I heard it was still in October 23 in a fucking tiktok clip. Same with most of the other atrocities. The media reports on it now not because they've learned these things only now but because they have become impossible to ignore/deny.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's a string of not-even-hidden evidence going back many years: Netanyahu's government actively conspired to destroy Gaza, Palestine etc. by all means, incl. killing their own soldiers and civilians, incl. even supporting Hamas.

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Very well documented is the fact that in the 1980s, Israel supported Hamas to undermine the PLO, because the PLO wanted a two-state solution and Hamas and Israel did not. Hamas has long provided Israel with the excuse to keep escalating.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Frankly, it's all pretty well documented. They've been doing it out in the open for a long time.

22 months of relentless Israeli bombardment the scale of seven Hiroshima bombs

Fascinating comparison. The Hiroshima bomb killed about 1/4 of population instantly, and about 1/3 in a year's time. 7 hiroshimas (if distributed evenly) in Gaza would probably wipe out like 9/10 of the population in minutes and make the remaining living envy the dead.

I call bullshit on this one. Their only "source" is an alleged video on Twitter, with a link that doesn't resolve (anymore?).

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Not. Surprised. In the least.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I find it much easier to accept that Israeli intelligence dropped the ball than they orchestrated or even tolerated the attack.

The facts about operation Hannibal, collective punishment, starvation, and war crimes is complete and morally damning without imagining that right-wing Israeli atrocity-profiteers are Palpatine level manipulators instead.

[–] Kinperor@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

They absolutely did let it happen on purpose. We had information that pointed to this conclusion within weeks of the attack.

Egypt told Israel that Hamas was planning something.

You can walk to the closest military base faster than the IDF reacted to Hamas' operation.

Nova survivors are sueing the security forces in presence: a single phone call could've saved hundred of lives.

The list goes on and on, this is absolutely a case of "let it happen on purpose".

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

I tend to believe both. These people have shown us there's no level of evil to which they will not sink when they think it will benefit them.

It was always the most plausible option. Narratives come before massacres, and you need something real to incite the people. 9/11 was just two decades ago, lol.

[–] sleet01@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"You need a radical insurgency you can count on. You need ~~Ghorman~~ Hamas rebels you can count on to do the wrong thing.”

Star Wars being incredibly prescient.
