So there's hope for Sync users yet.

Favorite?

You'll pry Spectacle out of my cold, dead hands.

Only on KDE, unfortunately. It's the thing I miss most after switching from it.

It doesn't work outside of KDE?

Not on wayland, I should've specified.

Flameshot mogs spectacle

ShareX is one of the few things I missed when I switched from using Windows.

[–] AdamBomb@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago

Same. I just switched to Mac for my work machine, and the screenshot app situation on Mac is plain dire. Actually just installed Flameshot earlier today, looks great so far.

Another major change disables Imgur uploads by default. The developers cite privacy concerns about users accidentally sharing sensitive screenshots on public platforms.

Am I misinterpreting this, or does this imply that older versions of Flameshot automatically uploaded all screenshots to Imgur?

[–] SinTan1729@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

IIRC, earlier there would be a button to upload to imgur whenever you took a screenshot. I guess now you'd need to intentionally enable the feature to see the button.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

no but images uploaded to imgur can be discovered by people just browsing imgur which isn't obvious to people who assume you have to have the link to see it

[–] SatyrSack@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Okay, sure. Are you saying the feature was actually removed entirely? The article makes it sound like it is just disabled by default now, but still exists.

From their release notes page regarding this feature. Use chatgpt next time something please or pay me

  • The imgur uploader is disabled by default at compile time. Users that wish to re-enable this can build from source with -DENABLE_IMGUR. We expect this to be a bit controversial but we believe this is the best direction for the project. [ℹ️]

    • The goal for Flameshot is to be a lightweight screenshot / annotation program. The imgur uploader is a program in its own right
    • The authors of Flameshot are increasingly privacy conscious. Having a misclick in a screenshot program accidentally upload sensitive data feels very risky.
    • We continue to discuss and iterate ideas for a plugin system [ℹ️]. When that is completed users who wish to have an uploader right in their screenshot program can implement this in a plugin
    • We will keep the imgur uploader code in the code base until plugins are ready
    • Please let us know your thoughts either way. This is not a vote, but we are interested in the communities opinion.

I've literally never been able to get this app to work 😞

[–] Auth@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If you're on wayland KDE, create a window rule to make it always on top. Then it works fine.

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah, I use GNOME, maybe that's why?

[–] Auth@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

I cant speak to gnome I've never used it. The problem started because there was no good screen capture protocol on wayland and everyone made hacky solutions. I only know KDEs hacky solution.

[–] twinnie@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago

Me either. Works great on Windows but I moved to Linux a year and a half ago and it’s always been broken.
