Hi all :)

I bought the Fire HD 8 a few years ago, and I want to be able to use it for books from other stores. I like the format and layout, so I'm happy to keep it, but I want to make it more useful.

I've got KOReader set up on my phone, and Calibre on my PC, and from what I've read, setting up Calibre Web with KOReader seems to be the way to go. I want to make sure that I've got it right though. The main things I want to do are to sync my book progress between the Fire and my phone, ideally without having to download the books separately to each device, and to be able to read epubs from anywhere, not just specific stores.

Is it just a case of getting Calibre Web set up and telling KOReader to use it as a source, or do I need to do anything else? Thanks :)

What generation is it? Don't try any of this without confirming you have the right model and generation:

I've never been able to tolerate Amazon's bastardized take on Android. If you also hate it, You can make it a semi functional Android tablet by rooting, debloating and installing the Google Play services.

Here's how to root, use the "hardware mod" method:

If you get really lucky, you might be able to flash LineageOS.

LineageOS for gen6-7:

And here's a tool to help with the question you asked (although I don't have any first hand experience, I prefer Google books):

Thanks for replying :)

It's a 10th generation, but it's fully updated. I turned off automatic updates with the fire toolbox, but the setting either didn't take, or was overridden, and it was updated while charging.

As far as I know that stops me from rooting or jailbreaking for the time being, but I'll read through your links tomorrow and see where I stand :)

Thanks again :)
