Texas Republicans have voted to track down and arrest dozens of Democratic legislators who have fled the state to block passage of a partisan redistricting plan.

The vote passed by 85 to 6, following Republican Governor Greg Abbott's threat of bribery charges against the absent Democrats.

After the vote, the governor ordered state troopers "to locate, arrest, and return to the House chamber any member who has abandoned their duty to Texans".

Since this is the boycott US sub, I'll comment as such. There are levels of boycott. Those of us in the US without any real hope of ever escaping also boycott places within the US. Texas and Florida are big targets for us. I have no desire to ever set foot in Texas or Florida again for the rest of my life and I have family in both states. I know my small actions won't do much but they do make me feel a little better.

Abandoning their duty to Texans you say?

And fuck every single one of those fascists. There is ZERO reason to try to redistrict mid year other than "dear leader" and our shit fucking districts are already a joke. Bout time for some "unpredictable fires" to start at some houses that may our may not be occupied by fascists.

Can they legally vote for the arrest without a quorum? 🤔

That's how fascism works, so yeah.

Think it's pretty much all they can do. It's not arrest as such, just compelling them to return for the vote, which by necessity can be done without a quorum. Also only applies within state lines, so pretty much just a symbolic gesture.

Legality is whatever the state wants it to be.

Outside Texas they don't have jurisdiction...pure posturing by the Dictraitorship.

Bold of you to presume the Republicans care about the law. It would be really easy to just use ICE to take them to some camp in Texas.

The rule of Law is dead in the U.S.
