I'm sorry but panel four is nearly impossible. Of course, that's what makes it so special, so thumbs up on the premise of the comic.

Using a scale helps a lot. You can still be wrong about how much you want to eat, but at least you're not limited by your ability to judge the amount by sight anymore.

I have a highly relevant and extremely dramatic video with a 35 second runtime!

One of these things required alien technology to accomplish, and it isn't the Pyramids.

Do people not make multiple meals when making pasta? It seems pointless to not cook in batches, but I also don't have the time/energy to cook everyday.

If you're planning for leftovers, it's even better if you plan them in such a way that you don't run out of one part of the meal, e.g. the sauce, while you still have a mountain of e.g. noodles. Also, reheated noodles kind of suck.

Portion control is much harder for me when there are leftovers. Way too easy to overeat.

2 oz per person is what I go by. I usually want more, but it’s a healthy amount.

[–] wieson@feddit.org 1 points 14 hours ago

I don't know what that is, but I go by 80g pp or 100g if it's on a hike.

Make a tiny bit more than you think everyone wants, then save the rest for leftovers? I don't get the issue with pasta (or rice).

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You still need to know the right amount for that, otherwise you can easily end up with too little or way too much.

I have no issue. I know how much pasta my family eats by what it looks like inside of my thumb and index finger when they form a loop. 🤷‍♂️ After a few times you get the hang of it. All you need to do is pay attention to how much you took and how much it is once boiled. 👍 Everyone can do this. Then if course people will eat different amounts depending on hunger and such, but that's what leftovers are for, is what I meant. 😊

This. More precisely, put the tip of your index finger against the joint between the 3nd and 2nd phalanx.

Put the tip wherever it needs to be to measure the amount of pasta you need. 🤷‍♂️ Sometimes I put I it here, sometimes there. After a certain point, you stop measuring in discrete steps and you can just see how much you need. 👍 Just make enough pasta.

I'm not a chef or anything either, just to be clear. We all have this power.

I take it you never serve fusilli or other shapes that aren't long and straight?

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

All the time — my kids love oddly-shaped pasta. 😊 Same thing there, you make enough of it, and you can just see how much you need, as long as you pay attention.

I reiterate: we all have this power. ✌️

[–] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The right amount is however much you want to eat 🙂.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I want to eat ALL OF THE PASTA.

I can only physically eat significantly less.

I should only eat a fraction of that.

[–] oftheair@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Awh, we're sorry that you're limited so much by that.
