After my little rant, here's a pupdate to bring things back down:

Christ all fucking mighty these banks make you jump through some damn hoops to get a mortgage don't they !!!!!!!

I created a digital ID to log into MyGov ( turns out I already did that four years ago ) but trying to log in with it has me beat. It just doesn't seem to happen and I'm frustrated as all fuck.

This is simply to do a Stat Dec to say I'm paying $150 per week in rent. No big bloody deal I don't think.

I just emailed my broker and told him to tell his contact that I'm going elsewhere for my damn loan. ( I won't of course ) The frustration is real and I'm currently fuuuuuming. Mind you attempting this at 4 am isn't fun.

Ok in for the real story. A few days ago I decided to clean up my vast array of keys that I carry. So many small ones that I can just leave in my Island car.....right.....

I went to fill up with petrol on my way home. Guess where the key to the fuel cap lock was......yeah on the Island but I wasn't. DOH.

I now have it with me and thankfully have plenty to get back to the servo.

Life wasn't meant to be hard goes the saying.

Stay tuned for more of "Man loses plot in real time".

Cheers.

Welcome to the world of paperwork...

Running a small business has legitimately become a massive drain over the past few years. Its gone from a fun technical and financial challenge to feeling like youre wading through treacle - the effort required to get anything done is just ever increasing. The paperwork requirement just keeps ratcheting up which means productivity goes down cause I dont suddenly have more hours in the day to compensate for the insane amount of time I spend sending PDF files to every bellend with a "system". Inductions for every site we go to? Sure, we only go to 3-4 sites per day, per tech. Well, we used to. Now its 1-3 because we're sitting there ticking boxes and listening to the same bollocks over and over again. We used to have SWMS. Then it was SWMS+JSA. Then it was SWMS+JSA+Take 5. Then it was SWMS+JSA+Take 5+TBRA. Now you need a SWMS per task as well? Two hour job now has the overhead of two hours of paperwork ffs. We basically have to double our price because we've halved our productivity.

The current hotness is definitely foisting the paperwork requirement on to the user instead of the provider, as you've found. Back in the day the bank dude would be over at your place, drinking your coffee, and filling out the forms with/for you so it's all done correctly and the process goes smoothly. You didn't feel as bad about them getting a nice fat commission off the loan. But now? They do fsck all, send you all the forms to fill out, ghost you for days at a time once the process is "complete" (even if it wasn't done correctly) which delays settlement, and still expect their fat stacks. Sending me a URL to a web based form is 15 seconds of effort on their behalf, then its 15-20 minutes (or longer) of my time, and if I've misunderstood one of the various industry acronyms and filled out something wrong then it's that same time again + my time chasing up the broker wondering wtf is going on with my application.

Same with inductions - you used to go to a site that had a legitimate need for an induction process. Their safety person would run you through the induction and get you sorted. Now? Heres a link to yet another portal that you need to sign up to, and then you need to do the induction before coming to site, and btw dont forget to upload all those documents again, but also we need to manually review them so you'll have to wait until they are approved. The job that used to be hit and quit same day is now a 3 day adventure of paperwork bouncing between everyone while the unit that needed fixing is either shitting itself completely, or their process is getting buggered up because somethings malfunctioning.

Oh mate I was squirming all the way through reading that. I've been a site person all my life until recent years. And yes a massive thing I don't miss is the inductions.

Sorry to hear all that you're going through. I was a subby ( my own company ) in the fire alarm industry for a couple of decades and more. Yup get in get out and make a quid. It's all so damn frustrating. I'm now employed as a TA at a pipe welding fabrication place.

No responsibility, no paperwork, no worries. And it's not like I made my fortune in the fire game. I have bugger all to be honest. But I'm fine in the big picture don't get me wrong.

Stress is the silent killer that we don't fathom out, sometimes until it's too late.

Best of luck with it all mate.
