Hello there. Somehow, Star Wars memes have returned. It's not a trap, this is where the fun begins.

Please do not post the "good friend" or similar copypasta

==========

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

I really liked Star Wars before I played the KOTOR games. I really loved Star Wars after I played them.

I always hold onto all my grenades for the final fight in KOTOR1.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

i think all i did was run away while planting mines

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

The slog to the boss often makes me quit during replays.

[–] higgsboson@dubvee.org 12 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I'd be happy with just a remastered kotor2 tslrcm.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I just want them to finish the KotOR 1 remake already...

[–] SlothMama@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It was officially cancelled

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Again? Last I checked, it was uncanceled. When did that change?

Edit: I could not find any information regarding a second cancelation. Could you please share your source with me? As far as I can tell, the game is still in early development.

No! Stop giving game companies an it to only rerelease shit you can already play. Fuck remasters.

AAA is already a glut of the same shit, we don't need more of literally the same shit

SWTOR is KOTOR3 for me.

Similar story telling, setting, dialogue, choices, morals and powers.

Only they added multiplayer and a cosmetics shop.

Oddly it's probably become less KOTOR over time, compared to how it was at launch.

Nah The Old Republic is why we never got a 3rd KotOR. Same reason why we don't have Elder Scrolls 6 or GTA6. Why would they make a new game when they're still making a shitload of money off mmo games that people are still playing years later?

As soon as I found out The Old Republic had a subscription fee I knew KotOR was doomed.

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

And then the eternal empire happened 😕

Cool sci-fi concept, but didn't feel very star wars to me.

[–] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That was really a bad move, in hindsight.

Painted themselves into so many corners they've never gotten back out of.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What was the eternal empire?

[–] essell@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

A plot device added to give the player somewhere to conquer / liberate.

A hidden empire that rivals the empire and republic, ruled by a powerful force user and with access to advanced technology.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 5 points 5 days ago (3 children)

I hated how it played though. And there was so much filler. And a subscription fee. And no mods.

[–] Rawrosaurus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago

Choices meant even less than in KOTOR and KOTOR2 too.

[–] UnityDevice@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

And a subscription fee

To be fair, they made it free to play 13 years ago, less than a year after release.

[–] Demdaru@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

With a limit being level restriction etc.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 3 points 4 days ago

The website still makes it look like there's a subscription and "cartel coins" to buy. I tried to free sometime in the past 10 years and the free mode felt limited. I think you can't sprint , or something insulting like that?

[–] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Fair enough, each to their own!

I didn't feel it played too different to the originals, much of the filler was fun and the fee is optional, so I loved the game.

I've never looked into mods for the first two, except the restoration project, so have no opinion on that point!

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is SWKOTOR still alive? I kept thinking that they shut it down

[–] essell@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

Nah, it's been passed off by the Studio to smaller maintenance company, who are doing some nice stuff with it.

New stories keep getting added, though perhaps they're not of the same quality as the originals!

[–] S_H_K@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

If Kotor cannot be canon then I don't want the story...

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Mechanically kotor 1 is a great game, kotor 2 is more or less broken and unfinished. Story in both of them is nonsensical and quests sometimes are just insane. Just replayed both games after 15 years.

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Statement: The writing was flawless, meatbag.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

When stories don't hold up on replay... Game writing in the 2000s was famously bad with few exceptions, and we considered stuff that almost kinda made sense as really good writing purely by comparison.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I should replay those... it's been ages.

When we were fist getting info on the production of the sequel movies, I got really excited at the name "The Force Awakens" because I took that as a hint to a possible KOTOR2-like storyline, with The Force Awakens introducing a Kreia like character or entire faction that recognized and learned to despise that the Force had a kind of semi-sentience or will - the Force awakens as almost its own character as it does in KOTOR2. The second movie could continue that narrative with escalations in anti-Force sentiment in the galaxy's non-force users who grow increasingly fed up with damage caused by the light vs darkside conflict; and the third movie, the grand finale to the trilogy of trilogies, would culminate with the Force itself being fully destroyed and freeing the galaxy from both the Jedi and Sith's (and other smaller force-using factions') effective subjugation of the average Joe-blow in the SW universe.

Instead we got A New Hope 2.0, whatever non-memorable bs that the second movie was, and Return of the Jedi 2.0

TLJ was the best of the sequels, and is second only to ESB in the whole saga.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Glad you liked it. I didn't care for it personally, but 'eye of the beholder' spiel.

[–] Nico_198X@europe.pub 1 points 3 days ago

word. thankfully there's plenty of SW to go around!

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 4 points 5 days ago

I'm currently playing X-Wing. And what little story there is is still better than Squadrons' shiny clean turd.

Looking forward to XWVM enabling TIE Fighter compatibility.

Just KOTOR's? JUST! Let me tell you something you little shit, I would burn everything Catlin Kennedy has ever built to the ground for... Well just for the opportunity, BUT! , I would also settle for the KOTOR's over any other star wars to exist.
