Regardless of what we think about the ad, why is the scrutiny on the model and not the brand or the marketing company?

[–] cook_pass_babtridge@feddit.uk 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Can someone explain this to me as a non-American: why do people register to vote as a particular party? I thought you'd just register to vote, then vote for a particular party at the election (and that ballot is secret, so nobody can say for sure who you voted for)?

[–] tmyakal 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Many states have closed primary elections prior to the general election. So three or four candidates from the same party are campaigning against each other for the right to be the candidate in the general election, and the only people that can vote in this preliminary election are registered party members.

[–] cook_pass_babtridge@feddit.uk 3 points 14 hours ago

Ah I see, so "registered Republican" is similar to "Conservative party member" here. Thanks, that always confused me.

[–] rbesfe@lemmy.ca 6 points 19 hours ago

Oh my God who cares

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 day ago

No surprise; white women vote Republican nearly as much as white men.

"Although women as a whole have historically voted for Democrats, white women have not. Instead, over the last 72 years, a plurality of white women have voted for the Democratic candidate only twice, in 1964 and 1996."

Oh, she's MAGA? Good thing I don't watch anything she is in. Regardless of the size of her assets.

[–] DrSteveBrule@mander.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

I vaguely remember about a year or two ago she posted a selfie from a family reunion in which many of her family members sported MAGA hats, which got a bunch of attention from the media. I guess this shouldn't be unexpected.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 195 points 2 days ago (3 children)

She's from Spokane, grew up in Idaho, lives in Florida, and set up a MAGA-themed birthday party for her mom. It's not like the signs weren't there.

Don't worship celebrities... Especially ones whose main selling point is their beauty not their skill.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 8 points 19 hours ago

Man, no matter where you stand politically, if your birthday party is themed after a politician, you're probably very dumb or just a cunt or both. And i don't even care about birthdays.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 68 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just leave it at "don't worship celebrities". Skill is no indication that they aren't a complete shithead either.

[–] cannon_annon88@lemmy.today 26 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Yeah ... We have plenty of evidence of great skilled actors being pieces of shit. People need to end this parasocial relationship with celebrities. They are just people we pay to entertain us.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 2 points 18 hours ago

It's a form of social control akin to bread and circuses.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Also, we should keep in mind that their profession - acting like someone other than their actual selves - is damn handy for masking all sorts of awful behavior.

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

I had no idea who she was until this. I'll probably forget about her next week.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

Cancel culture ahhh....good cancel culture. We need to cancel racism.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I still don't know who she is and happily keeping this way.

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

She is as far as I can tell a actor who doesn't mind being naked.

[–] atticus88th@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago

I am shocked that someone would be a Republican voter when there are literally millions of Americans that voted for Trump... shocked I say...

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't know why everyone always assumes women are progressive.

If the value of a woman is solely determined by the "rank" of men that want them, a lot of beautiful young women go for that system.

It's easy and they'd be at the current "top" and get what they want.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Authoritarians are so misogynistic that it only seems natural that someone who is paying attention would recognize the danger. One could say women are given the benefit of the doubt that they are smart and capable until a specific individual proves otherwise.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Biggest misogynist I've ever met in my life was a woman actually.

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

No one disparages a woman like other women

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

until a specific individual proves otherwise.

You mean like supporting trump for a fucking decade?

What more signal is needed?

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah. That would do it. But that's not something we knew until now, at least for Sydney. As with all people, this applies case by case.

Why is it that 9 times out of 10 when people on the left blow up about something, it's actually much worse than previously thought.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Goddammit. Or rather, nice. That kind of takes the unobtainable crush edge off, a little bit. She is no longer that hot to me.

Them biddies didn't vote though. 😭

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Just say it's a klan ad and move on like it isn't a big thing. Because at this point, unfortunately, it really isn't.
