War is an idiotic thing though and only clowns glorify it, so not too far off

Came to say this, yea war is for dummies who should be fired out of cannons.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.ml 60 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Shouldn't have written such a jaunty song then. I couldn't imagine marching to war to that, I'd probably start skipping.

People with coulrophobia find this song incredibly intimidating

I knew it was going to be this song

[–] MooseBoys@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Honestly with a proper orchestra it sounds more suitable for old timey armies.

I'm not sure it's composer gave a Fučík about how it was used

[–] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I noticed that immediately after posting it, but it stays :P

Still better than Fučková or Šitler (pronounced shitler).

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 2 points 2 years ago

I wonder whether one of Fučková’s distant ancestors was the Bavarian nobleman Focko, after whom the Austrian village of Fugging (née Fucking) was named.

Y'know it's okay to type out those silly naughty words

[–] Limitless_screaming@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The guy who composed "Entry of the gladiators" is called "Julius Fucik".

[–] Zidane@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

must have been fucky with my phone because it looked completely different... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Did you know you can hum the march and change midway to Yakety Sax?

Congratulations, you now have two songs on autoplay in your head.

[–] smashboy@kbin.social 19 points 2 years ago

Joke’s on you, I have ADHD and this changes nothing from my normal resting state.

[–] Semi-Hemi-Demigod@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

If Streetlight Manifesto is ska, then Yakety Sax is a march

Have you listened to the song? It sounds totally goofy. I'm pretty sure he intended it for antics.

March of the Toreadors could go either way

Dance of the Knights is serious imperialist business.

In my own opinion, Beethoven: Symphony No. 5, Movement III Allegro is a righteous anthem for Europa Concordia conquering the world in glory, and is a better one than the Ninth, Movement IV Finalé but people like the chorus.

I should also nod to the Saber Dance by Aram Khachaturian, which sounds too goofy for sabres. ˂nod˃

It's a march by Czech composer Julius Fučík called "Entry of the Gladiators", written in 1897.

Edit: It gets memeier! From Wikipedia:

He originally titled it "Grande Marche Chromatique", reflecting the use of chromatic scales throughout the piece, but changed the title based on his personal interest in the Roman Empire.

What thinking about the Roman Empire does to a mf

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 years ago

Dude's got the face of a circus ringmaster.

I want that music at my funeral.

[–] Malfeasant@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I'd rather have pop goes the weasel...
