What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

What an incredibly hilarious and ironic reason for a self-proclaimed communist to like China. "How can people not love China for its exploitative sweatshops? While this local union member, who just wants a livable wage from the products they make, is a crook".

it's a bit funny that "communist" china is winning at capitalism.

not to get into exploitation or communist theory, just saying that at face value is funny

It's truly wonderful isn't it? Can I make your comment the title?

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk -1 points 3 hours ago

This take isn't too bad tbh

A few times, I posted some innocuous comments on tankie instances and communities to express my - more than reasonable, I think - opinion that if capitalism is utterly fucked up, so is communism. Each time, I was quite literally verbally assaulted for "not knowing jack shit about history" and offered arguments to explain why I've been brainwashed and life in the USSR, cultural revolution China and contemporary North Korea is in fact a paradise. And promptly after, I got banned from whatever community I had commented on, and preventively banned from other tankie communities I hadn't even set foot in 🙂

The tankies are like MAGA people: they're truly deranged individuals.

I also had this happen to me when I was on .ml

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Well both support trump so it makes sense

[–] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Do they?

The tankies aren't right in the head, but I don't think they support Trump.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 34 minutes ago

I think it's more along the lines that they know trump's bad for the west, so hell yeah, more trump!

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, they have critical support for Trump and are vocal about it

[–] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Jesus H. Christ on a corndog... I didn't realize. Their compass really is all over the place 🙂

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 33 minutes ago

Their compass really is all over the place 🙂

can you really even call it a moral compass when it points in random directions every time it's consulted?

Cheap labor and no regard for quality or safety.

Don’t worry. With Trump, this will come to US sooner or later.

[–] HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth 7 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

The tankies yearn for the Foxconn suicide nets.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 10 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

Tankies be like: 'no, no, it's just for safety reasons because workers may fall out of the windows for some reason!'

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 32 minutes ago

workers may fall out of the windows for some reason!’

I mean, defenestration is a leading killer in RU...

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

(also just checking, this isn't you calling for their suicide, is it?)

[–] HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth 2 points 2 hours ago

No, absolutely not. I don't think any society is good that treats its workers so poorly it drives them to suicide. I do not wish to see my country have to employ such devices.

[–] angrystego@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Yep, how can someone think that is trickle down.

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 8 points 11 hours ago

More like trickle up economics. China got mega rich elites as well.

Pros: there is no tracking or spyware.

Cons: wifi still sucks.

[–] Sidyctism2@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 4 hours ago

-what does it do?
-glow blue.

But comrade, China is so efficient it only needed a small board. The space it just for aesthetics! (/s in case anyone needs)

Edit: it gets better the more I look at the picture. At first I thought it was hooked up to one antenna but it’s not hooked up to any. Most likely the board just powers LEDs and nothing else. My sarcastic comment still stands though.

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 12 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

Everything is made in china.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 11 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Not really

Chinese products generally fall into two categories:

  • products that require specific technical skills

  • things that are knock offs or straight up copies of foreign companies

China has a skilled workforce that is unmatched in most of the world. The problem is the government.

Goods that require labor but not a lot of skill such as shoes typically sent to developing nations since labor is cheap and prevalent

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 hours ago

They also don't let those pesky safety standards get in the way of production. What is a worker when there is a million more?

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 5 points 15 hours ago

ain't capitalism grand

[–] mgnome@piefed.social 13 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

$2.5 + some undisclosed amount charged from one's taxes to subsidize processing of the package, because China is a group 2 country in Universal Postal Union (a poor developing country 😢).

Straight from Chinese sources: US attempt to strip China of its developing country status doomed to fail.

Not like it was a secret about China being a "developing nation", but what they themselves don't say is how that status is still kept safe thanks to debt slaves.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

Do you have any other sources backing this up? Preferably more reputable ones?
