Seriously, why is this a thing?

They went with "my genes make me hot". Nobody there ever said "my white genes make me hot", they actually said something like my blue genes make me hot", as in "my blue jeans make me hot" or something like that .

It's just a word play and the ONLY reason why people nare freaking out about it is because they used a hot white girl.

They could have used a black model, and everything would have been the same, yet nobody would have batted an eye.

Stop giving the right ammo to bitch about how dumb the left is because, yeah, this is dumb. This is just a few people that need a hobby but instead spend their time fine combing every piece of media for something they can spin as a drama where none exist.

Not everything is racist, grow up

I think their response is a big part of it. Rather than going "It wasn't our intention to bring race into this" they essentially just went "What's the big deal guuuuuys? It's just jeans! That's all we meant, right? Good jeans? Haha, you guys get it!"

And every dog within a 10 mile radius started howling.

Well doh, of course. Bad publicity is still publicity and a little controversy never hurt anyone badly.

Everyone and their mother is talking about these jeans commercials now and I guarantee you that the brand is making bank right now thanks to all these dweebs needing to behave the exact fucking crazy way as the right was doing with their conspiracy theory bullshit.

Stop being dumb, just let it go. Its a marketing campaign where if you strong enough red cords, ooohhh, Nazis! They selected a white girl because they needed something blue, so blue eyes, so yeah, that is mostly white girls due to genetics.

Had they found a pretty black girl with blue eyes they could have gone with that. Did the final selection went for a blonde, white girl because of trump? Who fucking knows and who fucking cares.

There are bigger issues that are blatant and right in your face

For example, we could all be talking about the Epstein files but curiously every news organization is now talking about this bullshit.

Trump tried starting wars, threatened WWIII with Russia, nothing worked to distract from the evidence that he's a pedophile. If only he had known that all it would take is a fucking dumb jeans commercial....

People will move on from the jeans in a day or two, no one is moving on from Trump.

Are you dense? They would not have done this ad campaign the exact same way with a black actress. The entire point of the campaign is the pun behind blue jeans/blue (eye) genes. The intent is clearly to court white supremacists while being controversial enough to attract negative attention but also giving enough plausible deniability to garner sympathy from the centrists and the ignorant.

You're a child if you think this shit. Fascism is in, and marketing teams are going to be selling it to the masses.

Dog whistles are made for those who call them out to sound crazy. That doesn't change the fact that they're dog whistles.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca -1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

And this is not it.

Nowhere is any reference or indication about Nazis, last time I checked, that Sweeny girl has nothing to do with white power, racism, or Nazis, she just happened to be white.

It's about jeans/genes making you look pretty.

Now unless you're trying to tell me that, say, black people or Latinas cannot be pretty because of their genes, there is literally nothing wrong.

If you ARE telling me that, though, then I'd say you're the racist. And a creep.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Dog whistles seem innocuous until you understand the intent. But I'm done trying to convince you based on other's replies and your responses to them.

Fascism is here. Don't be dense, stay alert and stay alive. I care for yours and everyone's safety. Know that more of these appeals to whiteness are coming. In addition to more calls for violence against others. They will also be used to sell products (like this one, even if you don't agree) cause that's what marketing does.

I can’t believe the fuss being made over a euphemism for “this chick is hot”. It works for anyone of any race/gender. Hot is hot and “good genes” has been a not-so-subtle way of saying that for as long as I’ve been alive.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

Shit like this is why conservatives make fun of the left for calling everything Nazi. Clearly a tit joke

[–] semisimian@startrek.website 11 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

It's a boob joke - I didn't see anyone mention it. The "she has good genes" is an adolescent euphemism. Now, could they've found a person of color with large boobs to do the ad? Of course, and please do. I hope AA tries to remedy their mistake by releasing ad after ad of all the young actresses (using the word loosely for Sweeney) with "good genes." Double down and give the public what they want!

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Well, if they wanted their ad campaign to go viral, it is one way...

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 3 points 11 hours ago

That’s exactly what they want and we all fell for it because our society is predictable and stupid.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world -4 points 6 hours ago

Im going out today to buy some American Eagle jeans solely because these outrage campaigns piss me off so much, and now you're fucking with my future wife, Ms. Sweeney. I'll let them know they can thank you, OP.

Who gives a fuck what some random Twitter nobodies think? Also, don't call things Nazi if you're on a Nazi platform.
