Now how am I supposed to get this to my desk without either spilling it all over or burning my lips trying to slurp it here. I've been drinking coffee for at least 25 years and I still do this to myself at least 3 times a week.

All you need is a Pythagoras greedy cup

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

True! Then instead of spilling my coffee on the counter I could spill it on the counter instead.

So that you practice stopping it just before the siphon trigger

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

you're gonna need a bigger cup

Oh fuck yeah spread that meniscus

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 21 points 2 days ago

You've learned plenty. Mostly about the surface tension of coffee.

[–] bent@feddit.dk 35 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If they're anything like my they're just gonna fill it anyway and have an even bigger problem. I actually got a smaller cup to make the problem smaller.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 34 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Carry the coffee maker. It's your mug now.

[–] eager_eagle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

that's how I started, now I drive a cement mixer to work

This is the same approach as "add one more lane" to a congested highway. You know it's not gonna work.

Just get a saucer.

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 10 points 3 days ago

The induced demand theory of coffee cup size.

[–] trolololol@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

In case you still need help: If you're reading this now, your coffee will be cold so you can finally slurp it.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The coffee pot isn't set properly.

Put it back put it back put it back

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's intentional. Leaves an air gap between the pot and the hotplate.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, which is exactly why it shouldn't be like that. I know you probably did it so that the hotplate won't heat up the glass for nothing, which is fine, albeit unnecessary and slightly disturbing to my psyche. Unnecessary insofar that the hotplate won't crack the glass, it's not exactly that hot, the pot's good glass and usually cracking happens when you suddenly cool a hot glass object, not just by heating it.

I can't tell you the times that people have left it like that while there still is coffee, and then it's gotten awkwardly room temperature. Which is why I'm sort of sore about that.

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It’s not to protect it from cracking - it’s to stop the leftover coffee from burning onto it, since I only rinse it after use.

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I feared as much. People used to do that a lot instead of rinsing the pot out and making a new pan. Everyone just like "no no there's still enough for someone to probably want the last bit".

Dad used to do it at home as well back when I still lived with him like 20 years ago. I'm not much of a perfectionist, but this somehow gets to me idk why.

[–] RaivoKulli@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Dude it's fine lol

If the pathway from your coffee maker to your desk has sufficient width and structural support to accommodate a 70 ton tracked armored fighting vehicle, tank gun stabilizers can maintain pretty stable beverage platforms.

At least you get it in the cup. I have coworkers who forget their mug is beside the Keurig machine and press start... Lol

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 38 points 3 days ago (2 children)

My favorite every morning moment: bow down and SLURP

[–] AdamBomb@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Bow down before the one you serve

You’re going to get what you deserve

(It’s coffee. You deserve coffee.)

Put it on a plate. You'll spill, but it'll stay on the plate.

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

[–] MyRobotShitsBolts@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Skill issue

[–] thebustinater@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

Scoop some out with a metal spoon. The liquid in the spoon should cool quickly so you can still drink it without wasting any. Repeat until the level is low enough to carry.

[–] crandlecan@mander.xyz 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You do know your coffee makers 👌

[–] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 10 points 3 days ago

Moccamaster is relatively popular brand where I live. Most people know about it. It always boggles my mind when I see a middle class family with a 35€ coffee maker. Why cheap out on something you're using multiple times a day for the rest of your life? These things are not that expensive and spare parts are widely available.

[–] cRazi_man@europe.pub 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Others have posted longer term solutions (bigger cup, skill issue, etc). In the immediate situation you have some options:

  1. Decant to another cup. There's no way to do this without creating a mess.
  2. Put a plate under the mug and carry it back to the desk with a couple of paper towels to clean up the mess (if work is urgent)
  3. Leave it on the counter and sit there for 5 min till the top can be sipped before going back to the desk (if work can wait)
[–] rollerbang@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Surface tension at its best. And its max.

[–] uhmbah@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Clearly, just put the yeti top on.

how am I supposed to get this to my desk without either spilling it all over or burning my lips trying to slurp it here

Easy: redefine your "desk" to be that counter. Problem solved.

[–] klemptor@startrek.website 7 points 3 days ago

Solvable problem. You just need a turkey baster.

[–] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Little sips Brüder, little sips

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You don't need solution when you have the best coffee maker ever built!

(True)

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

Top-notch meniscus

[–] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Use a straw if available...

[–] cloudless@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago

That would be worse than burning the lips.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago

Get another cup an only fill them both halfway full. You will now be known as "2 cup larry".

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Mockamaster machine, nice 👌
