I mean no disrespect and have read the ~~propaganda~~ article. The Atlantic is an American publication based in Washington, DC.

The Word of the Day is: Scapegoat

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 17 points 23 hours ago

Israel is doing the starvation, nothing justify starvation.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Israel needs Hamas to want Palestinians to starve or else Israel doesn't have an escape goat to rationalize genociding Palestinians. As a result the narrative will be Hamas want to starve Palestinians.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 4 points 22 hours ago

escape goat

Just in case you didn't know, it's 'scapegoat'; the goat isn't, at least voluntarily, escaping anything.

Hard to read an article that is paywalled.

The last line absolutely nails it:

"The best way to undermine Hamas’s position is to instead flood Gaza with food, and to alleviate the suffering of its people."

So why doesn't Israel do it? If that would undermine Hamas' position, why is Israel maintaining the supply blockade they started back in the 90s?

Why is Israel intent on shooting people lining up for aid, including children, if that just re-enforces the negative opinion Hamas wants everyone to have about Israel?

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/israeli-strikes-kill-at-least-20-and-wound-hundreds-in-gaza-health-officials-say

That's not Hamas doing that, it's Israel doing that.

Israel's typical over-reaction to October 7th is what Hamas wanted, and Israel played into it. They chose to commit genocide, murder tens of thousands of innocent people, and used snipers to shoot children in the head and heart.

"The doctor went on to claim that Israeli snipers are deliberately shooting children in Gaza, citing his observation of two children who were shot twice. "No child gets shot twice by mistake," he said."

That's not Hamas. That's a deliberate choice made by Israel. They could stop today. They will not, but they absolutely could.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

The best way to undermine Hamas’s position is to end occupation and let israeli and palestininas punish their war criminals

[–] droopy4096@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Israel (or more precisely it's PM and his clique) is definitely interested in prolonging the war, the same as Hamas. One can't talk of one without the other. There werr some materials floating around that at some point Israel "sponsored" Hamas the same as US sponsored middle east terrorist groups just to be attacked by them later.

Keeping state of constant war is a very lucrative endeavour - you can shatter liberties, you can subject population to virtually anything claiming "war time" and rake profits from arms trade etc. While raiding humanitarian aid warehouses etc. It's a very dirty business. Hamas needs to be disarmed and disbanded, Netaniahu has to be deposed and persecuted, Palestine should be it's own state and Israeli need to return what's not really theirs. But none of the homicidal entities is willing to be persecuted thus this war will continue until one of them destroyed or reformed

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 0 points 8 hours ago

Israel is the only one who want to prolonge the war

[–] Peter_Arbeitslos@feddit.org -1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

The article says that Hamas wants Israel to starve Gazans, it doesn't say that Israel doesn't starve Gazans.

It literally says Israel uses hunger as weapon (against Hamas and against –or at least not caring about– civilians): "Hamas has benefited from Israel’s decision to use food as a lever against the terror group, because the catastrophic conditions for civilians have generated an international outcry, which is worsening Israel’s global standing and forcing it to reverse course."

E: You partly approve the article yourself and I'm aware of the fact it's Israel committing the genocide.

Not I nor the article have said that Israel isn't committing genocide. The only thing said is that Hamas profits by it and that Gazans are furious about looters and the Hamas. I don't understand why so many people downvote this, claim I would be paid, claim I would deny the genocide or write 6 comments where 1 would be enough, if not you want to deny Hamas is a terrorist organization which only cares about its own survival.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Which prove do you have that hamas want palestinians to starve?

[–] Peter_Arbeitslos@feddit.org 0 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

If you read the article –which you denied to do– you would have come across this passage: "In recent days, I’ve spoken with dozens of Gazans who are furious about what is unfolding around them. They are angry, one told me, at the “hordes of selfish people who are attacking aid convoys to steal and collect aid in a horrific manner without caring for Gazans who chose not to participate in these humiliating and demeaning displays of inhumanity, no matter the level of hunger.” But their anger is directed primarily at Hamas, which they hold responsible for putting the people of Gaza in this position, and for its continued refusal to end the war that it started. “Hitler fought in his bunker until he killed himself in World War II in the Battle of Berlin,” another person said, complaining that Hamas is hunkered down in its tunnels, willing to see Gaza destroyed to the very last child."

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

They are angry, one told me, at the “hordes of selfish people who are attacking aid convoys to steal and collect aid in a horrific manner without caring for Gazans who chose not to participate in these humiliating and demeaning displays of inhumanity, no matter the level of hunger.”

Starving desperate people will do anything to survive. That's basic survival instinct.

Stop spreading Israeli propaganda trying to make the victims out to be the bad guys.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

You can also interview dozens of palestinians who blame only israel. Palestinians are not a monolith

I already give you sources that show that it was israeli supported gangs who stole the aids and also isrseli extremists destroying it or blocking

It's so atrocious to compare certain palestinians to hitler yes even those who commited terrorism as retaliation for 57 years of brutal occupation.

The only real comparison with hitler is Netenyahu

It's hamas who offered returning the hostages in exchange to end of the genocide yet you keep blaming them for what israel started and false claiming that they want gaza to be completely destroyed

[–] Peter_Arbeitslos@feddit.org -1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Lol, it's some Gazans comparing Hitler and Hamas. But that's not the topic.

I already said it's Israel commiting the genocide, you don't have to act like I hadn't.

It still say Hamas is only interested in its own survival, which you can see when having a look at its history. Now there are first voices in Gaza which claim that the Hamas profits by Israel using hunger as weapon, which the article used as headline.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

No, it's zionists talking point to compare palestine to nazi germany to justify israel genocide.

What kind of of bs is this that israel is commiting genocide but it is hamas the reason that it happened and not israel and zionism who say the whole land is israeli

Hamas history show that they only comited attrcoties in response to israeli attrocities. Hamas don't simply throw rockets for fun they do it when israel kick out palestinians for their houses or when the settlers attack palestinians. Once palestine is free we could bring hamas leadership who alive to justice.

Look at how tbe biggest part of palestinians still oppose hamas destruction and dropping arms

When asked whether it supports or opposes the disarmament of Hamas in the Gaza Strip in order to stop the war on the Gaza Strip, an overwhelming majority (85% in the West Bank and 64% in the Gaza Strip) said it is opposed to that; only 18% support it.

https://pcpsr.org/en/node

This is not just a dozen of palestinians cherry picked by the israeli asset who wrote this article

That hitler-comparsion literally was a quote of Gazans. I tried to discuss this topic with you, even though I dont have good experiences with discussing topics with 2wo accounts and even though you don't want to read the article and spammed my inbox and repeatedly twisted my words, which you now did again by saying I said Hamas were the reason for Israel's genocide. Now you're talking about making the repressive, antisemitic, Islamist, misogynistic, LGBTQ+-hostile terrorist organization Hamas a government. I don't think I'm able to discuss anything with you among these circumstances.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

You posted a propaganda article that was heavely downvoted then complains about people calling you out for your trashy article full of lies and your false pretense.

I didn't accuse you of blaming hamas for the genocide in gaza. I said that it's the article who alluded to it

If you was discussing in good faith you wouldn't ignore all the articles proving that the content of the article are all false

I'm saying that hamas does lot of terrible things and that they should be brought to justice after occupation end

Hamas being repressive, misogynistic, LGBTQ+-hostile organization doesn't means you should spread the lie that they stole the aid when it was israel backed gang who did it as writen in my sources that you ignored and blame the genocide on them
