Any suggestions on the best country to setup a vps vpn? Thinking of countries policy on censorship and Internet control as well as reasonable connection speeds.

If you’re going for privacy you’re better off with a reputable provider rather than a vps. The IP of the VPS would be easily traced back to you.

I have one but just so I can connect to my home services and pihole, but I route other traffic out through a commercial VPN for more anonymity.

Hey, can you give ms some details or guide for your setup. I want to get a cheap pc and put truenas on it and then I'll need a way to connect to it but I'd rather not use zerotier or tailscale cos they don't feel that private to me. Also could you tell me what the big deal is with piHole? (I have proton VPN for tracker blockers and stuff like that)

WireGuard VPN, hand-coded iptables for routing

Yes that's a good point. I'm thinking ahead in case my current VPN starts logging and looking at alternatives but your right, it's nearly traceable as not using an VPN at all.

Just looked at review for Russian free Urban VPN. More holes than Swiss cheese. Still it was amusing to read at how bad it is.

I currently use PIA as required.

Try Russia. They don't really be giving a fuck about the Western laws right now

Yes, I get that feeling too!
