Good. That’s what you get for voting for a criminal.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 39 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oh no. I’ll have to continue to use my Steam Deck even harder now.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 13 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Lol, you think steam decks won't go up in price too? Sanctions affect everything. If you already have a deck you're unaffected but if you already have a switch you're also unaffected, for now..

I have a PS5. I don't intend to ever buy a console again. That era is dead.

Similar situation here. Bought the PS5 and probably used it for a year or so and now it’s collect dust. Literally. Kind of regretting getting one. I only game on PC nowadays.

I was thinking to get a Switch 2 but then all the chaos hit with the emulation takedowns, Nintendo suing Palworld, Prices of Nintendo games, prices of their accessories and the whole game key card stuff. Just to much negativity.

Still thinking about Steam Deck but it’s 3 years in its life. So not sure whether that’s worth the €700 euro. Have heard it struggles with the current games.

Have heard it struggles with the current games.

Truly depends on the game.

But yeah, there are quite a few AAA/higher graphical fidelity games I just won't bother, even if it's technically playable at a "smooth' 30FPS. Like Kingdom Come 2 ran pretty decently on it, surprisingly, but damn did it really make the game look pretty rough.

I expect there'll be a new Steam Deck in the next year or two.

But, honestly, I still use my Deck a shit ton, especially at work. It's hands down the best portable emulator machine and there are tons of indie games that run great on it. It also works great as a small laptop in desktop mode. I use it almost daily at work.

Truly depends on the game.

Well my main usage for the Deck would be games like; Almost all Switch popular Switch 1 games (except Zelda), Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload, Metaphor and Expedition 33 as well as the Ori games.

I saw videos on YT that Metaphor runs on 30-40FPS in cities, 60FPS in battles and that with emulation it’s a bit hit-or-miss. Someone told me, I’m asking to much of a handheld device but considering that the Deck is €700 which is a kind of a normal budget PC.

This might be a personal thing but 30FPS is going to bother me to no-end. I'm probably just spoiled with the at least permanent 60FPS and very often 144FPS.

Great to hear! Did not expect the Deck being able to work as a small laptop, hah. Though, my main usage would be gaming at home (for example; in bed, on the couch or outside in the yard). Kind of want a handheld because after 5 days of office work, it's nice to game somewhere else than in front of the PC.

[–] bassomitron@lemmy.world 1 points 37 minutes ago

I, too, can't handle 30FPS on many games. Fortunately, there are still lots of recent games that can hit ~45FPS, which--while not great-- makes it much more bearable. And if it's too poor of performance, I will often just stream from my desktop while in bed or on the couch. But again, I primarily use it for less demanding games to begin with (e.g. I've been playing a lot of Dragon Quest X on it recently).

I'm not saying it's worth it for everyone, but if the choice is between its closest competitors and the Deck, I think the Deck offers more value for the money spent.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 3 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Sure, the deck can go up in price, but it would have to go up a lot to even reach the Switch’s current price. The Switch was already way more than I’d be willing to pay to get locked into Nintendo’s ecosystem.

[–] missingno@fedia.io 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The cheapest model of Steam Deck, LCD 256GB, starts at $400.

After this price hike, the Switch Lite starts at $230, and OLED maxes at $400.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca -1 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

We’re talking about the Switch 2.

[–] missingno@fedia.io 9 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

No we aren't, this price hike only affects Switch 1.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 0 points 14 hours ago

Ah, ok. Well then this is probably moot anyway. There’s a huge second hand market for the Switch 1.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

The Switch 2 is only $50 more than the cheapest model of Steam Deck.

[–] potustheplant@feddit.nl 2 points 9 hours ago

It also has fewer (and more expensive) games and is quite a bit more restrictive.

Refurbished.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 16 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

$70 was already ridiculous for a Joy-Con

[–] 123@programming.dev 8 points 13 hours ago

Defective from the factory by design joy con.

The weird part is apparently Canada got hit by this as well.

I’d be curious what those “market conditions” are that screw over our northern neighbors too 🤔

[–] caseofthematts@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

We've always been affected by American prices of things. Some things fly under the radar and will be slightly cheaper here, but for the most part, the prices here are matched market price of the US, despite having a weaker dollar.

I can't imagine anyone would want to buy new games or old consoles for these insane prices, but then the Switch 2 did crazy numbers, so what the fuck do I know?

[–] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 13 hours ago

Nintendo Forced to Raise Price of Console due to Thinking of Bigger Number

[–] commander@lemmy.world 18 points 18 hours ago

I'm guessing they haven't fully siloed the Canadian supply chain from the US one, it may not be worth it yet to fully silo them off onto separate shipping, packaging, and support channels

[–] yggstyle@lemmy.world -2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

The market conditions are nobody kicking Nintendo's lawyers in the teeth and telling them to piss off... regardless of jurisdiction.

Follow that up with the consumer base clamoring for a gimpsuit shaped like the switch 2 and you get this result.

"Yes corporate daddy, punish me harder"

Edit: it would appear some people are unfamiliar with Nintendo's rather questionable actions. Or their lawyers are on Lemmy. One of those.

!pcmasterrace

Edit: didn't realize there was hate for PCMR, did something happen?

[–] Hawk@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 15 minutes ago* (last edited 14 minutes ago)

Well, chances are PCs will be getting more expensive too. This isn't really a Nintendo thing but a Trump tarries thing
