  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Not enough money for big bird. But money to spare for a fascist private jet. Tragic

[–] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago

Ice, more money to the pentagon and to support Isreal's genocide and apartheid.

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 11 points 21 hours ago

Don't forget the golden ballroom. Fucking bastards.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago

Has Big Bird tried installing a golden toilet at the CPB?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 1 points 16 hours ago

Big bird replaced by orange bird

Man they are STEALING our AIRWAVES

WE PAID FOR THIS. WE DID, NOT TRUMP. The CPB did more for rural Americans than nearly anything i can think of.

And the GOP murdered it for votes. Sacrificed Sesame Street on the altar.

I motion that in the absence of the Congressionally-created CPB, all airwaves are public, fuck the FCC. Let's go Pirate Radio.

The CPB did more for rural Americans than nearly anything i can think of.

And they voted HEAVILY for this.

I had to deal with right wingers all throughout Kansas whining that NPR did nothing for them and was coastal elites while their local stations were doing Harvest Public Media specifically to deal with news on the agriculture locally while Faux News couldn't give two shits about Kansas.

I'm not happy about it, but there's going to be a lot of "We didn't vote for this" which I'll happily tell them yes, yes they did.

There’s gonna be an empty band in the airwaves where PBS used to be.

IPTV stream of Ms Rachel, interspersed with leftist messages every 20-30mins, image macro saying how easy it is to set up a transmitter for your community, post it on social media everywhere…

[–] Skydancer@pawb.social 9 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

No there won't. They'll auction those bandd off to the highest qualified bidder. Qualified meaning president-approved propaganda outlets only. So as you say, nothing of value would be lost if someone were to transmit over them.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Except it's incredibly easy to notice and stop people from doing that.

[–] TimeSquirrel@kbin.melroy.org -2 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

I know exactly 0 people who are still watching over-the-air TV.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 4 points 16 hours ago

Lots of people in rural areas still do. Places where cable companies don't offer service because it's not profitable.

What does "false consensus" mean?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 34 points 22 hours ago

Not surprising, they've been wanting to do this for decades.

Problem with leading with the fact that NPR only gets a small portion of it’s budget from the CPP, is that it ignores that the locally funded affiliates pay for NPRs content. And a lot of those smaller affiliates are now going away.

[–] jawa21@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 14 hours ago

From this article from WABE that I looked up after seeing this post (WABE happens to be the station that I listen to when I can):

Although NPR, which produces news programs such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered,**relies on direct federal funds for only a small portion of its budget, its approximately 1,000 member stations receive a heftier portion of their operating revenue through CPB. With its nightly PBS News Hour and children’s programming, such as Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, PBS gets around 15% of its revenue from federal money, as do its member stations on average.

[–] WarlockLawyer@lemmy.world 16 points 22 hours ago

Fucking ending the article with a Trump shit spewing quote. Just to really leave an even extra awful taste after reading about this.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

This is just sad

[–] wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

What a shame.

Welp back to the Joe Rogan Experience! slowly puts on nazi armband /s

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

If PBS only aired programming about how our water is turning the frogs gay. Then they’d be non-partisan enough to remain funded.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 6 points 21 hours ago

Wow Trump probably killed Elmo and Big Bird. What a fucking monster.

[–] mitch@piefed.mitch.science 5 points 21 hours ago

well... this is going to cause a chilling effect. :/
