Reiterating what i wrote in another thread:

"She's the daughter of Robert Maxwell, who was believed to be a spy (and apparently potentially a double or triple agent), so I wouldn't be surprised if she's trained in spycraft, in which case she likely has a dead man's switch folder, to be released upon her death to various newspapers, which would explain why she hasn't been murdered yet..

Just my speculations!"

And

"[IMO] they're just negotiating the list of names she'll drop? It'll likely be Trump's equivalent to Saddam Hussein's 1979 Ba'ath Party Purge"

I don't get all the people assuming she's about to be "suicided". For all appearances, it looks like she's conspiring with the people in power to be useful to them in exchange for a pardon. Why would they kill her if she's playing ball?

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 40 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Exactly. Getting a pardon for the 20 year sentence is still a sweet deal. All she has to say that trump has nothing to do with it and even if she lies the pardon will absolve it.

This is why US should never allow blanket pardons or pardons before a conviction.

A lot of those shenanigans would be cut with those restrictions.

Not sure if this is really a great example to make your point, considering Maxwell was convicted already, and Trump wouldn't need to issue a blanket pardon to get her out of prison in exchange for her testimony.

The real issue here is that Trump knows there's no consequences if he does pardon her. He wouldn't get removed from office over it, and I doubt the House would even bring articles of impeachment. The Supreme Court has conceded him all the power, and Congress is too spinless to hold him accountable for anything.

Maxwell can commit additional crimes (i.e. lying) to get a pardon and that pardon would absolve her from those crimes.

She could tell a complete lie under oath and after pardon nothing could be done about it.

This is why no matter what she says, the full unredacted files should be released.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Because the minute she gives them what they have nothing to gain from her but a lot to lose.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 19 hours ago

And Trump isn't exactly known for honouring deals.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 day ago (4 children)

No one is going to believe her if she says Trump was never a client of Epstein, and then he pardons or commutes her sentence. If she tells the truth, she's not getting the pardon. Trump could promise her the pardon, have her say he wasn't involved with Epstein, and then never pardon her, but then risk she might talk for revenge. Trump needs her to calm the conspiracy theory and shift the focus away from him, without appearing to give her clemency.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

No one with a brain is going to believe her. Plenty of people will.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They know that not everyone will buy her testimony. They're counting on enough MAGA people buying it for them to put it all behind them. Having her assassinated would just resurrect the scandal. It's also not realistic to suppose that they could renege on a pardon deal without it getting out, especially if she dies. She has lawyers who'll be only too happy to go on camera and talk about it, and merking them too would only make it worse.

The playbook should be to have her exculpate Trump in public testimony, declare the scandal over, then pardon her at the end of Trump's term.

This person gets it

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Looks like their first attempt is to go through SCOTUS. Taco will try to get them throw away the sentence, then he would just say that he had nothing to do with it.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

Not only that. She still has all the information they all want. She will live to 100.

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why take the risk of her saying something?

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Because she has a powerful incentive to say what the only person who can get her out of prison wants her to say.

[–] WolfmanEightySix@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Wasn’t that equally true of Epstein?

I’m surprised she wasn’t disappeared years back.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Trump v1 still had people in there government that were serving the country. This is why coup didn't succeed. This time the very first thing he did was to prioritize loyalty over experience. Pam Bondi essentially is just trump appendix.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The need has to go both ways. At the time, Trump didn't need Epstein to exonerate him publicly.

[–] frezik@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

It's a threat to her. Cooperate, or we'll do what we did to Jeff.

She's a liability to them. She holds so much power over them; and all she has to do is run to the media and give them "the truth" ("the truth" being what everyone suspects anyway. Doesn't matter if it's actually true or not)

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

got to send a message to the rest of them

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If she's smart, she'll know the people she snitches on will be after her.

[–] Nico_198X@europe.pub 4 points 1 day ago

If she's smart she has a dead man's switch

[–] RattlerSix@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

She was in a minimum security prison before, she just got moved to a different one. I don't know why, but she hasn't suddenly moved to minimum security.

Minimum security federal prison isn't a vacation. I knew someone who was in a women's minimal security prison for a year or so. They're more lax, aside from roll call, prisoners are free to walk around and do whatever, they want, they can even go outside, but there's fuck all to do. A small library and a few board games and that's it. There aren't cells, there's one big room with bunk beds around the walls, restrooms, a dining area and a visitors area and that's all.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Nah, it's the middle of the summer and she's in a Texas prison. They just have to wait for her to heatstroke out

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 4 points 20 hours ago

But then people might start asking questions. Better to just have herself tie both arms behind her back, then shoot herself 10 times to the back of the head.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

She had no problems lying her ass off when she was on the bench last time. Seems like that would be valuable for Donnie.

[–] crankyrebel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

They are getting ready for her big release, or pardon from Trump. Same prison in Bryan, TX that Elizabeth Holmes was in. Tennis at 2pm followed by spa day!

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

No, she's useful to say Trump was never there.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Told y'all! She doesn't need a pardon to sing like a canary. She's been living in hell, this is a major upgrade.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No, she's been living in luxury. Hell is Gaza, right now.

I've been in jail a bit here and there. Maybe not prison, but still. That woman's been doing just fine behind bars

who the fuck is the Maxwell sympathizer in here, face the wall

[–] First_Thunder@lemmy.zip -1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Please give me a source for this
