Masterpi-ece. Pi-eak fiction.

I like this episode better than EP5. From what I understand, Takopi's deus ex machina (yes, it is) only happened because he regained his memories. Is it because Shizuka bonked him with a rock back in Tokyo? The power involves sacrificing himself, so it's not normally done, but it's OP (O-Pi?). It fixed the broken time machine camera. It probably required sacrificing himself because Takopi had to transfer his essence across specific points in a timeline, sorta like how ~~O-pi-Wan~~ Obi-Wan became one with the Force. In effect, he's able to give suggestive messages to Azuma, Shizuka, and Marina at various points in space-time. Perhaps, our characters were also given a vague idea of what their alternate timeline counterparts experienced. For me, the ending works, even if it's rather convenient and cheesy.

Shizuka finally breaking down, and also the moment Takopi let go of her to perform his sacrifice... it's... very... sad. 😢. Takopi meditating in the place where he first met Shizuka and the scene by the cherry blossom tree got me, dangit.

Six episodes is the exact length this anime needed. I'm wondering how Death Note would be like if it ended with 25 episodes rather than 37. I think I've already seen it by watching this show. Perhaps Takopi gave me some measure of happiness too, lol.

This show wouldn't work as a movie because the various character arcs would be glossed over if you watch all of this at once in the span of 2+ hours. You need time to digest what you see.

I didn't plan to watch Takopi's Original Sin. Only did so because of unforeseen circumstances. But I'm glad it happened.

Guess what my new #1 overall anime is.

Takopi sacrificed himself for the chance of three of them to be happy...
Life is still hard and painful but it's no longer miserable.
All three of them can survive to live a truly happy future.

It was something truly unique. Artstyle, music, story, I've never seen anything like that before and it worked so well.

I'm so glad I watched it.

And with that, Takopi is over. The ending still feels oddly abrupt, but I like it so much better than most other manga about troubled children/teen with clean conclusions.

A screencap from the anime Takopi's Original Sin, showing two girls walking side by side, a blonde and a brunette, their backs turned to the viewers as they walk away into the night, a dark forest in one half of the screen and a series of lamp posts on the other half

This was an incredible show. My AOTY candidate for sure. The ending may have been a little bit rushed, especially the part where we see Marina overcoming her prejudice against Shizuka so suddenly, given how faint girls' memories of Takopi were and how different it was from the pacing the show got us used to over the last few weeks. But I still think it was a great ending. The suffering is still there and they didn't live happily ever after, but they lived. Sometimes it's good enough just to have someone who listens to you and understands.

Never underestimate the power of common ground, no matter how silly it could be
