Hiya πŸ‘‹πŸΌ everyone in my house is sick with a cold except for me (Elder not too bad but the others are coughing and miserable) so I have been busy. Also exceptionally busy at work. Now to curl up in bed, sort by "old" and see what you all have been up to!

Among the many disheartening situations humanity faces, our propulsion systems are woefully inadequate. That is annoying.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

transporters like in Star Trek would be awesome

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Welp. I’ve completely gone to town on the Rage thread if you need something to get drunk to. There’s most probably something for everyone in there.

Let it never be said that Melba doesn’t deliver.

Experiment #2:

Instead of lowering the strength of the pill, I took it at 5am instead so it should wear off shortly.

Goodnight everyone ❀️ Here's to success hopefully.

Finally had the inspection today, and after the REA left I realised that there was a condom wrapper on the floor next to the bed I missed.

Why yes, private schoolboy lookin 16yo in dad's faux Hawes and Curtis suit, fake tan agent, I have sex.

Unintentional power move 🀘

(He actually was very nice, I just have a grudge against REAs lol)

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It doesn't matter how nice REAs are. They are class traitors and agents of capital. They will not be spared when the revolution comes

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

Eat the REAs

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

A-fkn-men to that!

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I considered it a good sign that my REA looks to be an actual adult. He was also nice to Mr Woof, even though Mr Woof was being a bit hysterical about the home invasion (he did calm down a bit after I picked him up, being the same height gives a dog a lot more confidence).

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Same. I prefer the lady agent who usually does the inspections - she has pets as well, and dresses rather casually for an agent, she's very down to earth and easy to approach.

This guy looked the stereotypical private schoolboy fresh out of year 12, still has broccoli hair. Teenager in me was like "this guy is a bully" πŸ˜‚ he wasn't, just hard to trust guys who look like that I think! He was pleasant! But I still prefer the lady agent for sure.

Sad: Realised this library book I've been procrastinating on reading can't be renewed any more and is due while I'm away. Have to drive quite a ways away to return it.

Glad: realised I could borrow the same title from a different library system on the way back, and it's closer to home (they were all on loan last month).

Sad: couldn't find my library card. Shit shit shit.

Glad: library staff extremely helpful in getting me a barcode to use. Book borrowed and ready to read in detail on my holiday!

Sad: well now it's late and traffic and gah. Will I run out of time to do everything tonight?

Glad: oh wait I booked my flight for tomorrow late arvo, not midday like my brain thought. So I have plenty of time. Yey.

Edit: extra glad: tax refund came in, yeehaw. I can safely enjoy my trip without worrying too much

Frogurts are banned in this weather. Cursed or otherwise... (that's good)

Just changed over my electricity and gas providers now that the new rates apply. Much cheaper alternatives available after ridiculous hikes by current providers. I will cheers to my money savings! 🍺

[–] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Argh yes the periodic changeover of providers... That's top of the list of Admin Shit I'll Sort Out Once I'm Several Thousand Kilometres Away From It All. I actually like my current provider and will be using basically no energy until 6 Sep but I know I won't have the headspace to think about it when I get back, and why pay more per day for just connection rates?

I will cheers to your good fortune 🍺

What's everyone looking forward to this weekend?

I'm working nights, but am looking forward to a (hopefully) sunny afternoon dog walk and new sheets on the bed. Plus daytime snoozes with Mr Woof and Miss Meow are always cozy.

Dungeons & Dragons down at the pub on Sunday. Haven't met this mob before (except for one). Last time I played I was a Barbarian Hero! Which was a new departure for me. Wonder what the dice will roll up this time. Used to do this a lot way back when so watching the younguns learn to do without screens and still have fun is a bonus. Plus the booze of course. The dungeon master has a bit of a rep for exciting play so I'm looking forward to this.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Last time I played D&D my character joined the circus because of rules lawyers. It's such fun until it isn't.

Tonight I had a small dinner and a meal replacement shake.

I'm setting myself the goal of doing the diet over August. Small goal I hope to build on. πŸ‘

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I have returned to calorie counting after putting half the weight back on over winter.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

I think the trick is it has to be a whole life thing, not a "diet">

And I've put some back on, but not all. So I am starting from a better position than last time. 😸

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago

Also it's band camp Friday right now so support a band on there if you know an act that needs it

[–] LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Happy Friday everybody.

Featuring annoying but cute doggo, so I can't stay annoyed for long. I think all the cat people on here have convinced me to get a cat at some point. It would be fun to have an eccentric room mate.

Cheers 🍻

My little trip to the shops to get Ugg boots for work and some food supplies aggrieved my little toe a bit.

Minor weeping fluid after I got home to check it out. Nail even though it looks lifted isn’t moving or shifting like it did the other day so that’s good news that it won’t detach by accident.

I’m going to just put my feet up and rest for the next few days.

Had to make the trip eventually but yeah.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I've been on a lil extreme horror analysis binge on YT (love it when they're 1-5 hours long). Doesn't matter if I haven't seen the movie or read the books they're talking about, it's a good way to determine whether I'd watch/read it myself.

I've also found a couple of creators who are AFAB/women, which I love. Mertkaykay (movies and games) and Earlybird (mostly old ps1/pc games) are two examples I'd recommend.

Edit: my own suggestions (both books) for body horror/extreme horror are:

  • Demon Shield by Bruce King (haunted church grounds turned up to 1000, I don't even know how to describe what takes place in that book). ?/10.
  • The Necroscope series by Brian Lumley. Vampires are alien parasites, mix in some weird sexual stuff, the KGB, the vampire home planet, and a protag who can talk to ghosts. 10/10.
[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Nice. I should probably watch while I still can

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 11 points 2 days ago (6 children)

Off to the Bellarine today.

Managed to convince ol' girl that she needs to go too. So perilously close to needing intervention because of weight, but having some moderate success with some pretty dense soups. No where near enough though. She's off to see another dietitian (3 different concurrent ones now) next week. Having to get these people up to date is tiring as it changes daily.

Have to say it's pretty demoralising her cracking the shits blaming me for things all the time, and it's random. If something goes wrong (anything from hearing aids not fitting to buying the wrong sort of pastry), I'm first in the firing line. I can take it but it's painful to watch.

The weird thing is that traditionally always been closer to ol' girl than ol' boy, now he's sitting there watching me cop all the shit in real time and he's confused on how to react lol. What used to happen if there was a disagreement (about banal shit), he'd crack it at me. Now everything is on its head and upside down it's very odd.

Anyway will be good to knock over the last of the weeds down there. Won't be much of an escape but at least a change of scenery for a few days.

I hate texting Apple phone users because you don't know when they've read the message or not.

What's something that makes you slightly angry?

Then let it go and enjoy your weekend.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Using the terms "unalive" and "grape" to refer to suicide and rape, respectively. I get it, the social media platforms demonetise creators for using the actual terms, it just shits me up the wall.

[–] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago

It's fuckin regarded.

[–] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And PDF file. Hate that one too. Call the dirty lowlifes what they are.

Yeah. Say it how it is. No riddles.

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Bad time to have a new iPhone hey lol

I just got a work call an hour after I clocked off. Everyone in the company knows I clocked off. Then instead of β€œcheers mate” it’s β€œwhy didn’t you see this earlier”

BECAUSE I FUCKING CLOCKED OFF YOU CUNT.

sorry.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh no. I don't care what you use it's just annoying not knowing.

Also to that person at work....

spoiler

Blue pens annoy me. Pens should be be black. Purple and green are also acceptable ink colours. But blue is wishy-washy.

Unexpectedly blue pens make me slightly angry.

My grandma and I were talking about going overseas to her home country.

Her: my passport expires next year. I'm going to get another one but only a five year one this time.

Me: why?

Her: well I will be 90 in ten years, and I'll either be dead or won't want to travel.

😭😭

Just another moment to remind me how fleeting time is. I was going to make travel plans for next year or the year after, but I'm scared about bad things happening when I'm gone.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Life manages to be both fleeting and surprisingly long at the same time. Never put off things like travel plans because of that sort of fear, if you do you will find you've wasted your whole life fretting about things that don't happen. It's better to be prepared to cancel a plan if necessary than to never make plans at all.

In regards to the passport, your grandmother may be better off getting the full 10 years. She may not want to travel, but having identity documents can be very important and it can be a problem for older people when the documents have expired and they are not up to the trip to the post office to go through the renewal process. I've seen quite a few posts in the aged care groups I'm in from people struggling with bureaucracy because of this issue.
