Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Oh so they all admit it IS A FUCKING BRIBE THEN? GODDAMNIT FUCK EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE SLIMY FUCKS

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 8 points 16 hours ago

I'll go one further, how about he get buried in it?

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 4 points 16 hours ago

So this will be taxed as a gift right?... Right?

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

They show their priorities again and again.

Epstein list?

Trump sending thousands of payments to epstein?

Nope, gotta shut down government to avoid it.

Letting trump keep a plane that Saudi's tricked us into taking cause its more expensive to renovate it than to buy a replacement, but its no big deal cause we're taking away peoples healthcare to pay for it? Urgent issue. MUST VOTE.

[–] MangioneDontMiss@lemmy.ca 6 points 18 hours ago

Corruption yeah!

[–] Kurious84@lemmings.world 5 points 17 hours ago

He's not planning to leave numbskulls.

Watching America move from being a de facto criminal enterprise into a de jure criminal empire is numbing.

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 23 hours ago

That's a white elephant gift.

If he's still around, maintenance on that thing isn't gonna be affordable

Russia, if you're listening...

Plot twist: he’s not leaving office. Don’t tell me about the 22nd amendment. He’s already in office in violation of the 14th. He’s not dying anytime soon either. Rotten fucks like him always live well into their 90s, fueled by hate. Just look at Rupert Murdoch.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

Rupert Murdock isn't also fueled by McDonald's.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Murdoch's age is just insane. His fucking father was a stain on humanity during fucking WWI, and that dude was already in his 30s at the time.

[–] Illecors@lemmy.cafe 1 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Your maths does not check out.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Oh but they does. Keith Murdoch (Rupert's father) was born in 1885 so was 29 at the outbreak of WWI. Rupert (literally Keith Rupert Murdoch) was born in 1931 when his father was 46.

[–] Illecors@lemmy.cafe 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

My bad. You said it was Rupert who was in his 30s during WW I and I thought that's what you meant.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

I said "that dude was already in his 30s" and I meant daddy Keith. Never mind, they're both pieces of shit. The only reason Keith is less of a piece of shit is that he's long dead.

[–] nao@sh.itjust.works 98 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Even if the plane itself was "free", they are voting to make a $1B gift (the cost to retrofit the plane) from tax money to one guy personally?

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Today's word is corruption!

I guess it's encouraging that they think he'll ever be leaving office alive.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did anyone say alive?

Trump Pyramid where he gets buried with his jet...

[–] mondomon@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

He can get buried with it up his ass.

[–] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Everyone has been put under a normalization spell, the trauma was too intense too long. I tried explaining to another liberal my fears about this term's version of the January 6 insurrection, he looked at me like I was crazy. People are trained to believe the ping-pong will go on forever, save and easy.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

“That’s not gunna happen!”

“None of it was ‘gunna happen’ and it just kept right happening anyway!”

They say it’s our thumbs and big brains that are our super power but I swear, our ability to pretend like everything is fine despite overwhelming evidence is something truly incredible.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 day ago (3 children)

We're spoiled from having peaceful transfers of power for so long. It Can't Happen Here.

Well, he's never going to leave the Oval Office at the end of this term, so the point is kind of moot.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago (7 children)

He might have to leave bcz he doesn't know who he is. Trust me on this one, dude is barely lucid most days. If he croaks before the end of his term, it'll be a good day for USA'ians. Even if it doesn't fix the problem entirely, he's a shit stain on the human race.

I think so long as the POTUS is in it, it's the Lolita Express One.

isn't any gift received by the president property of the government? or so i gathered from watching the west wing 😆

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 112 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's how it used to work.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 1 day ago

Haha, laws, those were the days

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 65 points 1 day ago (3 children)

So much of our government worked on the idea that nobody would be brazen enough to break convention, and the untested belief that voters would immediately and vehemently reject anyone trying to openly abuse their power.

We now know both of those assumptions were wrong.

I'm curious to know who is going to pay to keep it airworthy, if DT does leave office? Those things aren't cheap to maintain.

If he leaves office he won't be in a position to grant political favours to friends.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

His Trumpcoin scam is one rugpull away from being converted to actual useful money.

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 65 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Emoluments clause? No? Anyone? Anyone?

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Technically that right there would make it ok if the house passes the same. But my God, if we're going to use that qualifier to let the president have something from a foreign state did it have to be a fucking 747?

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

This vote was against an amendment to a bill that would ban him from keeping it. Not a grant to do so.

[–] spongebue@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Good to know! Something like this should absolutely be impeachable (I know lots of things should be, but this is one of the most clear IMO) and with a little luck things will change after 2026

I know, I can dream...

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 33 points 1 day ago

Went out the window in 2017.

[–] snf@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Emolument"? You sound gay and your shit's all retarded

Give it to the Air Force so they can test out a few missiles on it.

Preferably with Trump still inside it.

...this evening.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 28 points 1 day ago

No one could have seen this coming. We’re such a clown show.
