YouTube Kids should have profanity guidelines, YouTube should not.

What's the point of having a Kids section if EVERYONE has to play by dumbed down rules?

Won't you think of the advertisers?!

[–] QuantumTickle@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

As little as possible.

This whole age verification thing is going to destroy the modern internet as we know it today. Mark my words, but I have a feeling that if government issued IDs become a necessary component to access these platforms worldwide I cannot see these platforms surviving long term. People already don't trust these platforms.

Motherfuckers are trying aline with broadcast television. What happens if I swear no ads on my videos? Great fuck should be said two seconds in. Should be introduction. Fuck ads. Fuck whoever came up with this plan.

Wish we had another option. PeerTube isn't very good and no app.

Peertube does have an app. Just not on iOS as far as I know.

2000: I wish there was a good place to find videos online.

2005: Youtube is incredible for video editors because you can use a clip of an old song as a joke without lawyers killing the fun.

2010: Youtube is great because you can watch a whole thing without ads barging into the middle of it.

2015: Youtube is still pretty good because people can talk like adults instead of censoring themselves.

2020: I wish there was a good place to find videos online.

And of course:

Transcriptnickyflowers: It would be cool if websites let you be an adult on them. The advertisers and payment processors need everything to be Family Friendly though their definitions of family and friendly are absolutely fucked. But since they're in charge of the Internet now, no one is allowed to be an adult. TikTokers say things like "unalive" and "seggs" because they know death and sex are too adult for online. Online is for idiot babies only now because they're easier to market to.

nickyflowers: Oh I'm sorry you're a trans adult? Super ban. You are super banned for life. You have upset Visa's feelings. Mastercard is throwing up in the corner. How could you do this to Google Ads?

Why I don't give fuck if they Demonize me. That's why we have Patreon. We shouldn't have to rely on YouTube ads to make money from our content. Remember when YouTube was cool. Like Tourettes Dad was a thing on there. I used to be able to watch fuck up shit on that platform. Fuck this noise. Maybe just let us say fuck anyone that don't like it can go fuck off or go to the kid channel.

what about them blocking right wing propaganda, guess its count as advertisement potential.

[–] etherphon@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

It seems like they loosened the guidelines to allow swearing within the first 20 seconds of the video.. Anyways, it's all completely asinine, there is so much violence on TV/streaming what's a few fucking swear words?

[–] MrQuallzin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Relevant video from streamer RTGame. He's been working with YouTube for quite a while now regarding the profanity guidelines, and this is a major win for creators.

Oh fudge. They've diddly-done it.

[–] Flamekebab@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

Being friendly to advertisers feels ethically unsound to me.

Uses AI to identify teens

I feel like it would be as accurate as I am gauging someone's age from their way of speaking and then incorrectly label a 30 something neckbeard as being 12 because they act like they are 12.
