I tried installing Linux on my iMac and it was a nightmare. No audio. No WiFi. Apparently Linux doesn't support 5k displays? And somehow I managed to erase the existing MacOS install. Which was a whole other insane nightmare just getting it reinstalled.

That’s not surprising, but out of curiosity which Linux on which iMac? I have an old EOL intel iMac currently collecting dust and have considered digging it out and putting CachyOS on it. I don’t know if things have gotten any better, but Macs have long had a reputation for broken networking on Linux.

I think the display controller in a 5k iMac is custom? I think at one point it was definitely two signals combined.

I might be mixed up on the details. But I know it’s due to the bandwidth needed for full 5k.
