"Wow! Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine," Trump posted on Truth Social. "That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them. Oh' Canada!!!"

Trump wouldn't dare slam us. We aren't 14 years old.

Do not cave to this narcissistic bully. Do what is right.

Fuck Trump. Elbows up.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What is right is unconditional recognition of palestine. Not ask palestinians to disarm and let occupation continue like uk, france and canada

[–] TimLovesTech@badatbeing.social 13 points 2 days ago

Trump just wants his "Trump Gaza Riviera" resort, and he's not going to get it if Israel actually stops killing/displacing the people that live there.

Canada should call his bluff, and let him lose our top trade partner. If everyone had just come to a mutual agreement to call him on his shit either 1) he would have reversed and dropped this whole tarrif/trade nonsense by now OR 2) he would have absolutely cratered our economy and maybe even his base would see the light.

France doesn't have conditions for recognition.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There is an official letter from macron abass citing the same dumb conditions

Lead with the source next time.

Your source demonstrates that France does not have conditions to recognizing a Palestinian state. Referencing the commitments made to other countries is not the same as requiring those conditions.

What exactly am I denying?

What's in the tweet and the letter

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What’s in the tweet and the letter

France has 0 conditions for the recognition of Palestinian statehood. That is a fact, and your claim otherwise is not supported.

What is in the tweet and letter cites the commitments made by the Palestinian Authority.

What exactly am I denying?

Stop with your mental gymnastic. Everything the pa does is dictated by israel and the usa

We must also ensure the demilitarization of Hamas, secure and rebuild Gaza. And finally, we must build the State of Palestine, guarantee its viability, and ensure that by accepting its demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, it contributes to the security of all in the region.

Those are macron words not abass words

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why do you disagree with Hamas being demilitarized, Gaza being secured and rebuilt, the State of Palestine being built with guarantees for its viability, a Palestinian state existing without a military, and the state of Palestine recognizing Israel's official statehood?

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

He said that all palestine should demiliterize. Which guarentees are you talking about? Netenyahu explicitly calling the west bank as sumeria so he want to take all palestine like zionists always wanted.

Why should any palestinians drop arms before occupation end. Since israel is the occupier and is comiting genocide i think it's israel who should demilitarize

[–] Arkouda@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That was your last chance at good faith.

Take care.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Pure projection Apparently wanting real guarentees that israel will not continue occupation is bad faith, apprently saying truth about netenyahu intention is bad faith. Apparently wanting palestinians group to drop arms only after the occupation end is bad faith and apparently a free palestine right to an army is bad faith

[–] leastaction@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't understand Carney's timing on this. Why didn't he wait until after a deal was signed before announcing that Canada would recognize a Palestine state?

[–] Subscript5676@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 hours ago

I don’t think that would stop tRump from trUmping. If anything, he’ll use that to further his lie that Canada’s a nasty country to deal with.

[–] Idontopenenvelopes@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If it's pissing off Trump you know we're on the right side of history.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

We are not we are still selling weapons to isrsel, we refuse to blame israel. We want palestinians to drop their right to self defense

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Remember when people refused to vote for Kamala Harris because of the war in Gaza? Did they think Trump would support Palestine?

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

This is the least Canada can do, Canada’s continued weapons shipments to Israel make us directly complicit in genocide, while it’s dressed up as diplomacy.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 8 points 2 days ago

This clown has no say on our laws. Stay in your own lane Trump.
