Well, that was quick.

They'll find that they don't and recommend stricter ID requirements.

It isn't about age verification or "protecting the children", the reason this is happening globally is because governments want to be able to identify the person behind every IP address operating in their jurisdiction.

Every country is drowning in disinformation campaigns and other forms of information warfare. Nobody can fight it because you can't identify a real person from an intelligence agency-controlled bot account. One of the ways of dealing with this is to have an accurate way of linking identities to devices.

But, governments prefer to treat their citizens like they're children rather than being direct about it: Social Media is being used as a weapon and that has to be fixed immediately, before it breaks our societies.

I don't think this is the right way to do it, but unfortunately we are not given any chance to discuss the problem because talking about it would require admitting how powerless they are against this kind of attack.
