I saw that it's nearly at 40 seasons, I haven't seen it in years because it went shit. What's it like now?

I’ve been watching consistently through the seasons; a lot of the episodes nowadays are fine with a couple per season that I’m not a fan of and a few more that I really like. I find that I still laugh as much as or more than the other animated shows on Fox, so it’s still entertaining to me.

I've also been watching consistently throughout the seasons and feel the same. It's got good episodes and it's got not so good episodes, but few that are truly bad, but a few that are truly excellent.

The show has a golden era, and that era was the best. Now the show is in its silver era, a step up from the bronze era that ended a few seasons back mind you.

But I still laugh at every episode, so for me as long as they make episodes I laugh at I say keep 'em coming.

Yeah, totally agree; I still laugh at something every episode and I can’t say that much for some of the other animated Fox shows that haven’t been on for anywhere near as long. I’ll be sad when the show eventually ends.

I've been watching the Simpsons all of my life amd agree with the takes here. I'll be watching until the very last episode.

Thanks it's worth asking go

For sure. I feel like it gets a lot of undeserved hate because it used to be really good and they didn’t keep up the same level of quality of the first nine or so seasons, but it’s a long running show and I think very few long running shows, if any, can stay fresh past ten years.

I'm impressed S01 and S02 don’t have better ratings. I really enjoyed the more serious episodes that the show started out with.

This graph reinforces my choice of only keeping the first 9 seasons on Jellyfin.

I didn’t like s01 or s02 when I was younger. With a rewatch now that I’m older, I love them.

I only watch the Halloween episodes and Marge and some of the other characters are sounding rough.

I can recommend the newer Halloween episodes as good.

I don't watch the regular new show, but I don't mind it carrying on. I like to think of it as a new writer incubator where you can drop a newbie in and see if they can write a good Simpsons episode plus gain some experience on a brand that looks good on the resume

I like the Halloween episodes too! I know some people hate them. How is marge sounding rough?

[–] Jomega@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Let me put it this way: Her usually gravelly voice is sounding less and less like it requires acting.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago

She sounds the same way RFK Jr does

[–] Jomega@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

It's fundamentally the same. There's been a few status quo changes, but not many. Bart's homeroom teacher was replaced out of necessity after her voice actress died. Moe finally caught a break and got married, ending his jealousy of Homer and Midge. Quality wise, while it's not as good as the golden age, it's returned to being fairly decent. Easy 8/10.

I tried to pick up on it again at season 30-35'ish. I wasn't impressed, didn't even make it the entire season.

Same here, somebody wrote "The Simpsons are good again", maybe a year ago. The first few episodes of that season were better indeed, but then it stagnated real quick.

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I always look at imdb what the highest rating episodes from the last seasons are and then I watch those. No need to watch the stagnative ones.

That's a good tip

aside from the what if, about bart being murdered by sideshow bob, and lisa becoming a serial killer to avenge his death. doesnt seem like any other season is good as of late. simpson is past its prime.

similarly, family guy is too, the last i heard the last few seasons have been nothing but cringe, AI level and cringe PC jokes.

It is no different now than it was when you quit and it wasn’t any different when you quit than what it was when you started watching it.
