You really don't need to wax the quick link. All the surfaces it will have contact with will have wax on anyway.

Is waxing chains worth it in your opinion? What's the pros/cons? Less maintenance sounds nice but seems like a pain to get the equipment and strip everything first.
Don't know yet. The goal for me is minimize maintenance and maximize drivetrain life. With the current prices of chains and cassettes it's getting kinda ridiculous. I'm planning on waxing every 1000km and having chains last >10000km. I'm planning to extend the life of my current cassette by many years.
I got on the wax train with Silca's waxing system. It makes the whole thing quite trivial. All the tools are there and it removes the stripping step when using factory greased chains. I, like you, didn't feel like doing the whole mess before that.
Is it worth it? Don't know yet. Theoretically it should be. By a lot. Gotta see how chain wear grows on the waxed system. 😊
