Does anyone remember this? I think it was a grayscale image. It was head shot, or upper body (at most) of a woman in a white top. She might have been wearing a hat.

We used to open it in Paintbrush and marvel at how easily we could mess it up with just a few pixels, but could never draw anything like it. I think it was a low-res photo. Any help appreciated!

It is not the picture sometimes described as "jennifer poses in golden shirt".

Edit: ~~It did not appear to be a scan, either~~. It likely only had about three or four colours (white, grey, black).

Edit 2: I think I"ve found the model: Ashley Montana. I wasn't sure if it was a real person or pixel art. It was part or all of this image, minus any text: https://media1.popsugar-assets.com/files/thumbor/mKDBF_mMShvBUG92qG6R5Q_6-ps/fit-in/1024x1024/filters:format_auto-!!-:strip_icc-!!-/2014/02/11/926/n/1922398/758f5e1e3ceb3026_0211_large/i/1991.jpg

The colour palette was significantly reduced too. Thanks for the replies! I'd still like to find the original BMP/GIF that was distributed, if anyone knows it.

Edit 3: Here’s my edit to make it look like how we had it, at least to the best of my memory: https://ibb.co/WN8wZ1K3

I'm looking at your description and the link included and wondering if you're not actually thinking of this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenna

It’s definitely not, but thanks for the suggestion. I even remember the file name Ashley.bmp (or .gif), but I didn’t mention it because I had my doubts. The model in the photo I found is named Ashley and has the same very unique pose (although the version we had was grayscale, low res and likely cropped ).

Where in the world is she?

I dug out my windows 3.1 and dos 6.22 floppies but I think my USB floppy drive died :(

Sorry to hear that :/ I found a version of the photo (see my post edit). But the version I saw in the 90s was grayscale, low res and had no text. But if you visit the new link in my post you can see it.

Wow, I don't remember this at all.

I'll have to dig out my old Windows cds

It seems it was not bundled with Windows. That opens up all kinds of questions about how my friend got it on his computer :) I’ve added the link to my OP.

I was also thinking of Lenna but seems like it's not. Do you remember where you saw the image? Some sample image installed?

I saw it on a friends computer before we had CDs or internet. This is Ireland so internet and CDs were possibly a big thing elsewhere like the USA. I’ve found the hi-res colour version of the exact photo (linked in my OP now). Would still love to find the actual file. I remember it being called Ashley.bmp (or .gif).

Nice list, thanks. I’ve actually found it and updated the post with a link.
