Maybe if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to use apple TV, they could actually make some of that money back? I really wanted to see Severance and a few other things that were on apple TV. So we decided we would wait for season 1 to end so we could binge all the things we liked and then possibly explore what else they had and decide if we wanted to keep it or not. I have never been more frustrated over using a streaming service in my whole life. We were watching via browser and we tried several browsers and they all had the same problems. It just kept not registering that we were logged in and would make us go through tons of hoops to log in each time and would even lock us out of the account sometimes while attempting to log in again. For reference, this wasn't a free trial or anything, we were paying for the service and it just didn't work. We came back a few months later to watch season 2 and the experience was somehow worse. Nearly unusable. Why would I ever pay for that? So I think after this last try, we're completely done with it. I loved Severance, but it's honestly so bad that I won't be watching season 3.

I would never advocate for piracy.

I would. Piracy is a service issue. Make streaming things easy to consume and with minimal frustrations for the users and piracy will diminish greatly.

But but but but piracy is illegal! If something is illegal that means it's immoral! And vice versa of course.

Just for conversation:

If you set aside legality. Do you feel you have the right to access other people’s creative work? Do you draw a line anywhere?

As a general rule, no I don't, but when it comes to productions by huge conglomerates like Apple, Netflix, Disney, etc I really wouldn't shed a tear, especially if I was in the situation that I couldn't access something due to technical issues even if I'd paid for it.

I would never pirate indie content – whether movies, games or otherwise – or books though, and even with the "big name" content I'll often pay for it afterwards if at all possible if I actually like it. Unfortunately legally acquiring especially even slightly media is often a real pain in the ass nowadays, thanks to region locks and all that bullshit.

Edit: as a note, I do still have an active Apple TV subscription. although I've canceled it

I appreciate the measured response!

I didn’t know the web app was so popular. Seems like it is based on your upvotes.

/s

That said, it’s sucks that you ran into issues. I suspect it’s because no one uses the web app. (But really it sounds like conflicts with ad blockers and stuff? Do you use any?)

People have other complaints about the native apps. Like how your recently watched stuff is handled. But every service has their own way of making their app suck.

The app is available on Roku, and other streaming devices as well.

Sounds like we should expect another price hike soon.
That said, Apple TV+ does have some good shows, and they haven't yet built Netflix's or Amazon's track record for killing off shows, yet. I've reached a point where I don't really want to start a new show, before knowing how many seasons it got before being canceled. Too many shows I like have faced the axe, mid story, for me to want to get invested in another show which will go one or two seasons then just die. But, I'm still willing to give Apple the benefit of the doubt in this regard.

Good thing Apple has trillions in the bank so they can fucking take some losses without whining about it like the little bitch capitalists they are.
