But Michael John Burkett, the NOFX frontman known as Fat Mike, who is also a partner in Fat Wreck Chords, says the current political atmosphere has had a chilling effect on the genre. “How politics are right now, it’s not good for punk rock,” he says. “A lot of bands are scared because of Trump and his followers. They love to hate and take revenge.”
Punk Rock
One of the original, and currently largest, punk communities on Lemmy. The purpose of this place should be obvious from the title. Self promotion is ok, but spam is not, so keep it reasonable.
The goal is to help everyone find new tracks from around the world. Post new music, or your old favourites, but hopefully as you browse the group you'll find something you haven't heard before. Think more crate digging than top 40 streaming services.
Where possible please try to link to Bandcamp, so others can support the bands you love.

Fuck Nazis, fuck trump and fuck his nazi fans.
He's stating facts about his observations, not endorsing their actions. I assume that he wants more people to speak out against the administration, but is also sympathetic to the legitimate concerns of people who he personally knows. It is easy to tell people they should risk their own safety from behind a keyboard. But I assume there is nuance here, and he was only quoted two sentences in the article.
Like, this is Fat Mike.
I mean it was kinda hard rebelling against a government that was... making it easier for gay people to get married.
This administration is much more in line with what punks like to rebel against. I expect to see revivals in genres like folk, punk, and blues. As times get worse, those types of music get better.
But hey, maybe I'm the faggot, America.
