The world's gone to shit and punk bands always appear to remind us

Yep, it's a valid way to relate, and much more positive than some think. Cutting through the gordic knot.

I know what you meant but, my brain imagined little garlic knots with phrygian caps on 😊

I guess greek mythology & punk don't go together well but I couldn't think of another analogy that means the same. Though I'm sure one exists.

Punk shows up when it's needed, no sooner or later. And it's fucking needed...

Punk never died or went away, it’s becoming mainstream again.

I think there's plenty of good punk acts that have playing the last 15 years. Some even with decent mainstream success like Amyl and the Sniffers and Viagra Boys.

Amyl and the Sniffers

Current favorite! Didn't even know they were relatively succesful. Should look out for tour dates I guess. Wouldn't that be something.

I made it to one of their shows here in the US earlier this year, definitely go if you can! They're playing in August in Berlin with another band I love, but sadly that's a little too far for me to travel just for a concert

Berlin, huh?

checkcheck check

Shit. Some dates in the UK, then Berlin, then off the continent... I won't be able to catch the Berlin show. Damn, I'll practically be flying over it 24h earlier.

Anyhow, here's the cover for "U Should Not Be Doing That":

U Should Not Be Doing That

It's too bad some of the popular bands like Kublai Khan TX are MAGA idiots. The hardcore scene always had losers but this push will be rough

Unfortunately hardcore has a bit of Nazi/far right problem. Seems to be more of a problem since conservatives really leaned into the ideology that they're really the ones being oppressed by the state despite all evidence to the contrary.

Kinda ironic considering some of the OG hardcore scenes formed around violently hunting down neo-nazi.

I was the right age at the right time to have been really into peak 80s punk, but was far too oblivious to pretty much everything that made it special to appreciate it at all at the time.

I can certainly tell you what has kindled my recent interest to explore the genre, and it wasn't because I was pissed off about pronouns and DEI. Now to click the link and see if the article tries to suggest some other reason...

😁

I've been listening to Bagel Radio for a decade now... it has all sorts of guitary music, and always included Punk. As another commenter said, it's not dead, never was.
