Speaking from experience: in many cases, they’re cliche because project managers, producers, and execs insist on writing achievement names & descriptions instead of letting the writer(s) do it.

It’s happened on almost every game I’ve worked on.

They get a kick out of having a tangible contribution to the finished product, and in most cases seem to believe they’re actually being funny and original. It’s easier to just let them have it.

It's kinda sad.

"I think this is the part where he kills us."

[–] known@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 3 days ago

"Hello! This is the part where I kill you!"

Just reading that made me laugh. Absolutely fantastic abuse of every available medium.

I know no one cares but on the off chance that someone does, the picture is from this song.

It's a song made basically entirely of Japanese onomatopoeias. It's brought me so much joy I'd love if it makes one other person feel that way.

What a great tune to start my day to. Thanks for sharing!

I swear some games just load them up at the start so it looks like you were playing for longer when others see you have "SO MANY ACHIEVABLES"

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But cant they also see my 8 minutes total time played?

Not if it's on Shrex Box

I like that the "open game" archivments are mostly at like 70%

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

It gives a point of reference for the others. Though it should probably just be the base for calculating the other percentages.

Seeing achievements that actually are hard to achieve and aren't grindy brings me joy

Yeah, I wish they were only that, instead of "collect all 1000 mcguffins" or "defeat a boss with 1 life left."

Ratchet and Clank did trophies the right way and made them fun little challenges that unlocked cheats and other gameplay twists.

Going for all the gold bolts was actually fun.
