On the question of which party was more corrupt, Democrats edged Republicans out, with 49 percent of voters surveyed regarding the Democratic Party as the more corrupt, 44 percent of respondents identifying the Republican Party that way, and just seven percent choosing both, neither or equally corrupt.

30 years of 24hr propaganda has scrambled a lot of brains. I’m not saying democrats are sterling, but worse than republicans? The same republicans who are operating an openly corrupt government.

[–] socialsecurity@piefed.social 27 points 3 days ago

Republicans literally voting to protect the pedos and yet they can't seem to lose much of anything

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago (3 children)

That makes no sense. They ringing only landlines? How do you get this result with the most corrupt regime in history in charge? Just out in the open corruption, not even hiding it, bringing Teslas and market manipulators to the White House to celebrate. Fucken asinine.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Easy. Democratic voters can admit that some Democratic politicians are corrupt and that many more Republican politicians are corrupt. Republican voters will often only admit that there are corrupt Democratic politicians.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

The correct answer. Like most things in life, it comes down to statistics

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social -5 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Republicans are definitely more corrupt, but Democrats are better at hiding it. In a way that makes them feel more corrupt. In a lot of ways, I prefer a straight up enemy to one that pretends to be a friend.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

but Democrats are better at hiding it

If I have to hear this stupid ass shit one more time in my life I'm going to lose it.

"Herp derp, they're probably really bad but just hiding it well. I don't have any actual data I'd like to present, just this stupid fucking conspiracy theory I can't support."

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How about this. Obama let Wall Street completely off the hook for causing the 2008 mortgage crisis, then let them in the room for setting up his healthcare plan that financialized healthcare like never before, then collected over a million dollars in speaking fees from financial companies within weeks of leaving office. That do it for you?

Wanna talk about AIPAC, Israel, and genocide for Biden? Nah, I don't think you do. How about foreign donations to the Clinton foundation? Should we talk about Pelosi (among others) and inside trading? And then there is Joe Manchin, but it hardly seems fair to bring him up.

Democratic corruption is ultimately why we have Trump for president again.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Got it: Obama did some bad stuff, so that's why everyone voted for the very embodiment of bad almost a decade later.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

No, it's not a direct line in the way you put it. With two corrupt parties cynicism grows, and fascism soon after. It's as predictable as death. Sooner or later that's where you end up with a population that feels trapped.

If you want a direct causal relationship, then I guess we should go into the Democratic consultant complex where nepotism thrives and utter failure gets rewarded with more and more responsibility. The consultants and culture that lost to Trump the first time around were still there to lose a second time. Power and advancement in the Democratic party are about who you know, not winning elections. If nepotism gives way to anything, it's raising money to spend on more useless consultants.

Well, you and Clarence Thomas have that one in common then I guess.

He’s quoted saying it in this podcast. A really good one if it sparks your interest. If not, then you’ll just have to take my word for it.

I mean, it's hardly that unique a trait that it makes sense to invoke him specifically. People hate enemy soldiers, but not with the kind of hate they reserve for traitors.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Apparently a lot of people think the party that backs independent Andrew Cuomo over Democrat Zohran Mamdani isn't corrupt to the core. Astounding.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

ITT: no one saying Dems aren't corrupt.

JUST NOT AS corrupt. The difference between Obama and Trump is like black vs white ..trash.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 3 points 2 days ago

"to the core" was an important emphasis.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Democrats are the "friends" that try to act like one of the bois but leaves when the weed is gone and complains that they're nervous that there is also shrooms on the table because they wouldnt want you getting into "hard stuff"

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 2 days ago

Trump voters are fucking stupid and uninformed and proud of it.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Imagine how fried your brain has to be to think Dems are as bad as Republicans, much less worse.

You'd have to be a completely uninformed, braindead loser. It's not like the truth is locked in some vault inside a mountain. The facts are abundant and easily available. You'd have to possess weaponized ignorance to bOtH sIdEs this.

Not being perfect is not the same as being fucking fascists. And it certainly isn't worse.

Goddamn this country is fucked.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Because Democrat voters want to hold their representatives to higher standards and recognize that some don't measure up. Republicans also want to hold Democrats to higher standards and are sure all of them are criminal and evil however are completely unable to recognize any problems in their own ranks.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

What voters?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

"Well, at least Republicans are honest about it!"

[–] DougHolland@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Republicans promise stupidity and cruelty, and wow do they deliver. Dems promise little, and deliver less. In a weird way, maybe that makes Dems more corrupt.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 12 points 3 days ago

Thats a pretty abstract way to describe corruption in comparison to something like taking trips to your own golf courses on the government dime

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Dems promise little, and deliver less.

Let's look at the last 2 Dem presidents.

Obama: Got me, and millions of others, affordable healthcare when I had none. He also passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the American Taxpayer Relief Act, leaving our economy in WAY WAY better shape than he found it. Passed the Consumer Protection Act. Removed the ban on homosexuals serving in the military. Invested heavily into clean energy. Etc etc etc.

Biden: Passed the largest infrastructure bill in our lifetimes. Passed the American Rescue Plan, which helped stabilize the economy after the pandemic, causing the U.S. to have lower inflation than most other countries and the strongest job recovery in AMERICAN HISTORY. Became the first president in AMERICAN HISTORY to stand on a picket line with striking workers. Forgave millions in student loans and never stopped trying to forgive more, despite Congress and the Supreme Court pushing back. Established the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and in 2023 schools were awarded $286 million in federal dollars to support student wellness and school mental health professionals. Tried to remove medical debt from appearing on credit reports but was reversed by a federal judge. Invested heavily in clean energy. Made numerous moves to regulate corporations and cut back on erroneous fees passed down to consumers. Passed the CHIPS Act to bring chip production to the U.S. to rely less on China. Etc etc etc etc etc.

Biden was the most progressive president in our lifetimes. Even more so than Obama.

You just chose not to pay attention and jump on the "they don't do anything" train without informing yourself first. Then you have the audacity to proclaim that maybe Dems are more corrupt? While we're currently experiencing the most corrupt administration in American history and that's not even remotely debatable. While statistical data over the years has PROVEN that there are WAY more convicted criminals who have served in the Republican party than the Democrat party.

Dems do plenty, and certainly FAR FAR more than Republicans do. There are simply too many fools in this country that can't spend half an hour doing some homework to find this shit out. It's easier to complain I guess. Congrats, you're one of them and you're spreading your misinformation to at least the 10 other fools who have upvoted you thus far. Real good work you're doing there.

The argument is stupid and pointless. As long billionaires exist, they're bought too much either way. The billionaires need to die before anything will be fixed.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Got it: Both sides.
