There's a good chance the man who ran teenage beauty pageants provided bodies for the rape Island.

[–] Ebby@lemmy.ssba.com 105 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Whoa. I never connected those dots before.

That's dark, dude.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 days ago

. I never connected those dots before.

HOW?!? I feel like I've lost my goddamn mind. It should be like the first fucking thing you realize when you learn about both things. They're so obviously connected.

[–] char_stats@discuss.tchncs.de 42 points 3 days ago

I'd be surprised if this weren't the case. I mean, in their perspective it must be a brilliant plan so why wouldn't he do it?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 27 points 3 days ago

he also was whining how epstein was "stealing" his " massage parlor" underaged employees from him.

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Or the other way around, as this article suggests

[–] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 125 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Trigger Warning! #Trump #Epstein

To be clear this YouTube link is the testimony of a victim - Not Ghislaine.

It is really hard to watch

She graphically describes what happened:

Most girls were 13-14

Trump kept requesting her. He demanded she wear a blonde wig; he said she looked like his daughter who was also 13 at the time

Trump forcibly took her virginity

Jesus fucking Christ. For all I've kept up with this, and I really do try to pay attention to it all, that's the first testimony I've actually watched. And I hated all twenty minutes of it.

That is absolutely chilling.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 60 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I'm glad people are finally paying attention, I guess, but none of what has come out has been new. We already knew all of this, it was all reported on, and nobody gave a shit.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Finally we know that the president of the us is a rapist. We sure as hell are not gonna elect him again.

People in 2017

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago

Seems like the media is starting to portray him in a negative light consistently, and that’s causing some supporters to go woke. As you said, none of this information is new. The only difference is the medias portrayal of him. Seems like the owners of the us aren’t liking the direction we’re going.

[–] kadup@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

It's even worse then giving a shit or not, a huge portion of the people who voted for him identify with the desire to go after a 14 year old girl - they're just limited by circumstance and social pressure. If they had a guaranteed way to come out clean and the funds, they'd be on that island too.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 days ago

They seem to give a shit now, so.... Progress?

I'm disappointed in the reaction-based interest. They finally have a personal reason to dislike the guy, and now, in retaliation, they actually notice all of the sketchy/terrible shit that he's been involved in, or party to....

Despite my disappointment, I'm just glad things are being seen finally. It's probably way too little, and way too late, since he's currently a sitting president in his second, and hopefully last term, but it's something.

[–] Kurious84@lemmings.world 8 points 2 days ago

14 do you know how innocent nearly all 14 year olds are. It will wake them up to the horrors of the world in a shock fashion as they get older. Insane. Billionaires are sick. We have no need for them.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 47 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (4 children)

Title gore? Ghislaine survivor?

Ah okay, I've not been following this part and didn't know who Ghislaine was — I thought she was one of the victims so I thought she was supposed to be the survivor. She's one of the accused. Gotcha. My mistake.

[–] MajinBlayze@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

Read commas in headlines as the word "and"

[–] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

This headline is proof this newspaper convention is stupid. If they're so keen on holding on to this weird tradition of "saving space" in headlines for a medium in decline (print), just use an "&" symbol. It's much more recognisable, comma has a clearly defined function and they're misusing it.

Their tradition be damned.

Just my 2¢

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Yeah I know that much, I was just confused over who was the victim and who was on trial lol. Thanks though!

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

For years I thought The Onion doing that was part of the joke.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

How are people this fucking clueless about the myriad sex crimes that our president committed prior to 2016?

None of this is new. All of this was reported on prior to the 2016 election.

Unreal.

[–] Allemaniac@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

not everyone here is american though. We don't pay attention to every little court room screening in America; and are sometimes finding out via chat rooms like this one

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Bingo. You nailed it.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fair enough... However, there are tons of Americans that are just as clueless

[–] Allemaniac@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

sadly yeah, willfully ignorant people exist everywhere on this floating rock

[–] Microw@piefed.zip 2 points 2 days ago

It was not all reported prior to 2016 since it was the Miami Heralds reporting in 2018 that brought a lot of things into public eye. It was however all reported prior to the 2024 election.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

You didn't guess it, but the other person did: I'm not American 😉👍 Watching the shit show from afar and don't have as much detail in media like you do, and we got all of our own shit to worry about on top of your shit, so. It's a lot. 🤪

Take care though.

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

In news media, titles like "Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell survivor" are meant to be read "Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell survivor". Commas often mean "and" I think to save print space. Pulling that part out of my ass somewhat, but that is still how youre supposed to read it.

[–] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Indeed, and I personally hate it. "&" Is right there if they want to save space.

I really dislike when the reason to continue doing something is tradition, and that's what is going on here. It would be so easy to just start using "&" instead of commas, which outside this context are not used this way.

Get with the times, silly journalists.

(Just an extra gripe, that journalists are often really shitty at citing. "A report from XYZ organisation says" yes, which one? Y U DO DIS TO ME?)

[–] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

Oh, I was like 30 when I found out and was absolutely pissed. I blame style guides and more specifically those who don't dare change them.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I know, I already explained what made me confused in my edit hours ago. 😉👍

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Hurricane, house fire, tornado, rabid dog survivor testifies…

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Oh god, not these guys again

[–] nectar45@lemmy.zip 12 points 3 days ago (5 children)
[–] Scotty_Trees@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

oh sweet child, if only you were right...if only.

[–] Paddzr@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Man committed treason. What's little raping an underage girl going to do to him?

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Ah, but that treason wasn't blatantly obvious.
I mean, it's not as if he ordered people to surreptitiously take boxes marked top secret. Then order people to delete videos from the server room to cover shit up. And then, when the deleting thing wouldn't work, also order people to flood the server room with swimming pool water where the videos were kept. Then, after all that, just keep the top secret documents in an unlocked room next to a fucking fax machine.

If he did all that in such an imbecilic bungling three stooges-esque type manner then he'd be arrested by now, surely. And there's absolutely no way that the American people would vote him in again...

Edit: He's on the Epstein list because he's a kiddie fiddling child rapist AND he's also a convicted rapist of E Jean Carroll.
Plus there are over twenty known court cases/accusations of him sexually assaulting and raping other women.
(I like to mention this whenever I can.)

[–] remon@ani.social 13 points 3 days ago

I've heard that one before.

[–] ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You say that.... Don't get my hopes up.

[–] AngryRobot@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

The right-wing propaganda machine will tell the cultists that it's no big deal and they'll adjust their thinking like good little sheep. Donald Trump has never seen an ounce of consequence and until I'm proven otherwise, I won't believe that he ever will.

hopefully, but the political and legal establishments are there to let trump do whatever the fuck he wants.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Let’s make this the most upvoted post on Lemmy ever.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh we are not trying to make her out as a victim now.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 41 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The headline is confusing, but it is not referring to Ghislaine as a survivor

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ohhh okay. yeah I had to reread that a few times before I understood what it was trying to convey. Thank you.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago

It's intentional, sketchier yet, it's from what looks like a "news" outlet in Palm Beach Florida.
