Maybe we should do in Washington what they did in Nuremberg.

[–] YesButActuallyMaybe@lemmy.ca 21 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Maybe Canada can burn the white house down again some day

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

That would involve having to actually set foot in the US. I don't blame them for not wanting to do it.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

No time like the present.

[–] RedPandaRaider@feddit.org 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The Nuremberg trials were way too lenient. Instead of establishing the death sentence for every accused right from the go as they should have done, it became a diplomatic battleground between the Allied Powers and the Soviets.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago

Instead of establishing the death sentence for every accused

Do you mean convicted?

[–] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

That is... not the threat that you think it is.

I highly recommend watching Fantasies of Nuremberg. Be warned, it is extremely heavy to watch. But it is absolutely essential framing to keep in mind when talking about Genocide.

Frankly, a far better idea

Rebuild and create a stable government with the ultimate goal of a long term stable ally? Because yes they should but that ship feels like it may have sailed for a good long while.

Oh no you mean what we did to Dresden and Hiroshima don't you? Complete annihilation without regard for human suffering

Fucking moron needs to get out of government

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'd say he needs an electric cattle prod shoved up his ass, and connected to a wired power supply... but he might actually be into that.

I do concur on the leaving office, though.

[–] MantisToboggon@lazysoci.al 3 points 3 days ago

Please think of the ladybugs!

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

That should be a long line, from all parties.

[–] SuperApples@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What they did in Tokyo? Drop 1600 tons of incendiary bombs, killing 100,000 civilians, destroying half the city, making a million people homeless? I'm pretty sure Israel is already emulating this strategy.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 18 points 3 days ago

Err haven't they already killed 400k people?

[–] simsalabim@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Reminder, that Berlin was liberated by the red army, not an US army.

They already did much more than that tho. The percentage of palestinians in gaza that have been killed is so much higher than that of germans or japanese during ww2.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago

When you're such an evil idiot that you mix up the Marshall plan with the inhumane actions taken in Dresden and Hiroshima

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 14 points 3 days ago

Some people set an example of qualities you want to strive to incorporate into your life; others set an example of qualities you want to avoid like the plague.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 days ago

What a compassionate, closeted republican.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Deport Lindsey Graham for supporting a treasonous administration, preferably to the Oort belt/cloud.

[–] Gowron_Howard@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Why waste the tax dollars? Just drop him off at the frontlines, or better yet some random spot in the middle of an ocean.

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (2 children)

How many IDF soldiers are killed per month? 1? 2? I'm not convinced Hamas hasn't been essentially wiped out of Gaza.

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Trusting any information provided by the Israeli government is a mistake. Whether it's higher or lower than the number listed, I wouldn't trust them to tell me the number of finger on their hands

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Absolutely, but in this case it's likely that (and I think I've seen reporting that) they're undercounting the casualties. Also note that there are names and this is public information; for this information to be fake they'd need to fake the soldiers' deaths and that'd be over the top even tor Israel.

[–] SmackemWittadic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Fair point, in this report it is probably accurate

[–] anton@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago

They claim 454 dead in combat in almost 2 years, so a bit less than 1 per day.
Having looked closer, this years data also includes:

  • 2 combat death in the west bank
  • 2 non combat death in the west bank
  • 1 vehicle accidents near gaza
  • 1 vehicle accidents in the golan heights
  • 1 blown up at home by iran

There are 85 combat death in 211 days. There is no information what combat death are friendly fire.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

Not nearly enough

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Semi-colonize and make them into valuable allies and economic powerhouses then betray them by randomly setting tariffs?

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I was about to say, wasn't Germany a serious ally of the US until about...oh, 8 months ago? Same with Japan. What could've changed? I wonder.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (3 children)

what did the US do in Berlin?

[–] setsubyou@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

On the ground they only arrived 2 months after the USSR captured Berlin, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t do any bombing runs before…

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

yeah. i was being rhetorical. graham is just a fucking monster himself so there’s that.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Rebuild the city and use it as an example of how prosperous capitalism was compared to communism

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Better question, what does he think happened in Tokyo?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

Both Berlin and Tokyo were bombed by the US.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 6 points 3 days ago

Help them rebuild?

[–] crankyrebel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 days ago

What cretin votes this fascist into power? I imagine they go back under their rock until it is time to vote again.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Maybe we should send you and your relatives to Gaza and re-evaluate?

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

This bag of mayonnaise gets too close to a Weber grill & it’s like “Oh God fire!”

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Yankees de mierda

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

In Tokyo and Berlin, the genociders were destroyed, so for once I agree with him.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 2 points 3 days ago

Dude if Israel did in Palestine what America did in Germany or even Japan we wouldn't fucking be in this mess.
