Texas thinks they can pass laws binding the legal actions of people who don't live in Texas. If the SCOTUS upholds this, it opens a huge can of worms where every state can effectively legislate behavior in any other state. For example, California could prosecute gun sellers in other states who sell guns without performing background checks to California residents who travel there. It would be a mess. The right should not want the court to decide in Paxton's favor here.

Las Vegas would broke out the second that happens
SCOTUS just needs to refuse to hear the case with "lgtm" and then they're free to give a lengthy rebuke of California if they try something similar.
They're not even pretending to be non biased anymore.
This is funny, because the same NY state law still applies.
And moreover, if the court were to order the official to do the thing, the court would be ordering the official to break NY state law.
And if the court makes the precedent that states can override the laws of other states… well, Boston and New York and California and other powerful blue states have fucking HUGE populations of lawyers that would LOVE to absolutely ream red states over stupid, regressive, and backwards regulations and laws.
Ken Paxton is such a piece of shit.
Thanks for wasting taxpayer money on an obviously bad lawsuit. There are only three possible outcomes from this waste of money:
-
They lose in the quickest possible dismissal for obvious reason after paying lawyers on both sides to create briefs to the judge.
-
They somehow find a judge that allows this to go to trial and spend MUCH more lawyer time to get to the obvious loss.
-
They somehow win and cause complete anarchy across the US as large blue states can start prosecuting people in red states for stuff like gun laws and denying health care to trans people and denying health care to women with non-viable pregnancies.
I kinda like the sound of number three, honestly. It probably wouldn’t work that way, but I like the idea of it.
They're losing on purpose. The goal is to get into the crooked SCROTUS.
Come on up and do something about it Texas.
