Let's be real. The US govt dropped the ball on internet propaganda. They left it wide open and didn't touch it because the people in charge were old, spoiled and out of touch. To paraphrase Andor, they got so fat and satisfied that you could walk in their house and spit on their food and they'd never even imagine it.

Now it's fully under the purview of Russia, China, and a handful of powerful corporations. Any attempt by America to retake control will be too little too late.

I'm not sure how the law works for other countries, but don't they want all of this for surveillance? They took something that is super popular and a lot of young people won't want to live without, and made it so you have to provide all of your data. I thought UK especially had a lot of government cameras? Since it's a law, I'm sure they'll sneak in other things to it as well. This is the outside looking in, but I could be wrong.

Authoritarian and fascist dictators “want this”. Everyone else is the victim.

The sooner you accept this absolute and undeniable truth, the better it is for everyone.

Your refusal to accept this absolute and undeniable truth makes you the enemy.

Okay but don't go around calling people "the enemy" to their faces if you want them to accept this truth.

Like that is basic psychology. If I were an authoritarian or fascist dictator that wanted to poison and sabotage the people's movement, I'd pretend to be one of them and act like an asshole.

I don’t need their permission for them to accept the truth. And if you think this is a game of consent, you’ve already lost.

Delusional people with their “beliefs” is how he got into this mess in the first place. They need to be the first to go. Delusions serve no one but the self. It is a ritualistic beast, selfish act. Democracy depends on teamwork. All of us working together, caring about each other and such.

Self selfishness that level is tantamount treason

I don’t need their permission for them to accept the truth

I don't know what this means? That sentence doesn't make any sense. How would you require permission for someone ELSE to accept the truth?

And if you think this is a game of consent, you’ve already lost.

I never said anything about consent.

Delusional people with their “beliefs” is how he got into this mess in the first place. They need to be the first to go.

Okay again, if you want to threaten to murder people that's fine, but DON'T DO IT TO THEIR FACES! Like he can hear you in here! Someone saying "I think you should be the first to go" is not going to make them change their minds!

Democracy depends on teamwork. All of us working together, caring about each other and such.

Yeah. And part of that caring means deprogramming people, using positive propaganda, talking to people, convincing them of things, arguing.

[Homer Simpson's Brain Voice]: "People can be influenced to believe things by their peers, or techniques such as propaganda."

Whatever you're doing, going around calling people traitors and "the enemy" and saying "they should be the first to go", is the exact opposite of propaganda that helps us. It is propaganda that hurts us. Capitalists pay people to do exactly what you are doing right now, because they're cunning enough to know it hurts us.

That’s a lot of cunting

Cunt

But, most of all, thank you for telling me how much I hurt you. It’s my reason for living.

As an outsider to this conversation, you want people to be nice to you in order to accept their truth except they won't be nice to you unless you accept the truth. I think both sides need work but the only thing that matters is the correct info.

[–] yucandu@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

I just think we could be putting that correct info into the same propaganda techniques that evil people use to convince people to hate and work themselves to death.

Like if you can trick someone into hating their peers, surely you can trick them into loving them?
