On Anime

While Anime is a beloved animation style with a rich history and extensive following, our focus here leans towards other forms of animation. This is due to the immense popularity of Anime in online spaces, which is amply covered by other dedicated communities.

This doesn't mean that Anime related conversation is not allowed here, only that it's not our focus. For a dedicated Anime instance, check out ani.social.

On Technical Discussion

While our primary goal is to discuss animated media, conversations about animation techniques and the process of creating animation are also welcome. Whether you're a budding animator seeking to understand more about the industry, or a seasoned professional sharing your experiences, you're welcome here.

Avatar will have an animated movie in 2026, featuring the original Gaang characters but with an entire new voice cast .

"Steven Yeun was Avatar Wan," Konietzko said. "He played the first Avatar in The Legend of Korra. We loved working with him and we're excited to have him back in the universe."

The natural follow-up question is whether Yeun will also be playing Avatar Wan, but neither Konietzko nor DiMartino would budge on that one.

Yeun joins previously announced cast members Dave Bautista (a so-far unannounced villain), Eric Nam (Aang), Dionne Quan (Toph), Jessica Matten (Katara), and Román Zaragoza (Sokka).

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, due out October 9, 2026, is said to focus on the original Avatar protagonist in a story that takes place many years after the series came to an end.

It’s a busy time in the world of Avatar. Also at Comic-Con, DiMartino and Konietzko revealed the first image from Avatar: Seven Havens, a 26-episode animated series following a young Earthbender who is the next Avatar following Avatar Korra.

Seems like an odd change, if only because Bruce Davison is still around.

... and Dante Basco is pushing 50.

Might have been interesting to have Davison reprise the role, although he voiced a much older Zuko.

I guess they would not have wanted a white VA though for one of the main characters. The movie that never happened really tarnished any cross-ethnicity casting for this universe.

That always seems like a weird focus, in the absence of real-world cultures or accents. Nobody told Mark Hamill to follow Mako's lead.
