I love these kinds of photographs. Even better is when we find archaeological evidence of familiar behavior tens of thousands of years ago. We humans haven't really changed since Homo sapiens first came to be, despite all our cultural layers.

Got a source for that claim?

A quick reverse image search and reading through of different places where this was posted; noone else seems to be suggesting that it's a dead body

Not to mention the eyes move between the top left and other photos and she's pushing the kids hand down in the top right photo...

This actually was a thing that happened sometimes (trigger warning - dead bodies) but assuming that there's a corpse in every Victorian portrait is not reasonable.
