Electrolytes (lemmy.ca)
submitted 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) by bowreality@lemmy.ca to c/buycanadian@lemmy.ca

I am still looking for something to replace LMNT.

I found Insaltd and that would be a good option but while they are a Canadian company they produce the electrolytes in the USA. I contacted a while ago about it and they said it’s too hard to get them manufactured in Canada. When I checked with them again recently they didn’t even reply.

I also tried Rock Canada Hydration which is made in Canada however they really don’t mix well (even the powder is super uneven when scooping) or taste good.

Does anybody know any other brand to try? I see a lot but most have a lot of “extras” (vitamins, etc) in them or just have 200mg sodium. I really look for a replacement of LMNT not something like what Vega or Organika offer.

Just mix a bit of salt in flavored water.

Well if I do that I can also mix the whole electrolytes mix myself. That’s not what I want. Flavoured water like what? I don’t drink anything like bubbly etc. Also not very portable. I need a drink mix.

I've used Biosteel sports drinks, and they were great! They do have powder, too.

And all their products are now Made in Canada.

EDIT: I just looked up LMNT, and damn, do they add a lot of sodium to their drinks. I haven't honestly found anything with that much. I'd have to even look up what the negatives are of having that amount in a dose-bomb.

Yeah LMNT is a different beast.

I've only ever used their maple gels. I assume the maple is from QC, but not sure if their other stuff is 100% canadian ingredients.

The maple gels are really good but expensive. I save them for race day and the few long runs just before race day

I looked I looked that Krono. Thanks. They don’t have much sodium unfortunately.

Found one to try next: Organika extra strength. Wish me luck.

Actually not bad. I might have found a solution here. They only have two flavours lemon/lime and fruit punch but fine for now. Available at well.ca

Try drinking more milk, and coconut water (if you can find non US coconut water). Or better yet speak to a dietitian about your particular needs, who will be better able to make suggestions on things you may need.

No sorry that’s not a solution for me. edit: to add I specifically don’t want extra vitamins etc as mentioned.
