Trump also talked on Sunday about the "hundreds of billions of dollars" that tariffs were bringing in.

Sure is galling how this deranged windbag is still talking as if US consumers weren’t paying the tariffs.

That sounds like a terrible deal for the EU and a complete victory for Trump.

You can't "make a deal" over someone's interior tax policy. In the end, if the moron wants to make a stupid tax decision that will offer no benefit and massively hurt the US economy (for his own benefit, of course), another country or bloc can't stop him.

This "deal" hurts the EU far less than a long tradewar with hugely uncertain and constant changes. Not that these terms won't change (probably when the moron in chief realizes the trade deficit isn't shrinking, but the US economy will hurt).

The way I look at it, about every country is getting a 10-15% tariff. So you make a big fuss so he thinks he wins, agree to basically non terms and wait to see how hot the Republicans are looking in a year at midterms.

Not to mention the administration is such a clusterfuck , if I was the EU id expect to be able to circumvent most of the agreed terms without much difficulty.

At least the EU gets to keep the GDPR, right?

Yes, and all consumer protections too. This is just a country setting a stupid tax hike for themselves after everyone told them this will only hurt them.

Wow, what a win-win.
